NYPD supplying recruits with iPods
Whoever said that the NYPD had a heart of stone? The most famous police department in the world is outfitting new recruits with iPods. The new program, which has now placed 947 of the little media players in the hands of the city’s finest, has been in effect for quite some time now. The players come pre-equipped with audio and video relating to "Penal Law, criminal procedure, warrants, and ethics," though we’re guessing that most of that info gets overwritten with B.I.G.’s Ready To Die within 2-3 hours. No word on which iPod model the department is handing out, but given the mention of video they’re not skimping with a lowly Shuffle. This doesn’t make the thought of joining the force any more appealing to us, but if the lack of an iPod in your life was stopping you from hitting the Police Academy, now is the time to step up.

What about the donuts? wil there still be time for donuts?
wow… they have outfited so called trained professionals with videos and audio with procedures they supposively just learned how to do.
thats a gotdamn shame.
its even sadder that ethics has to be on there too lol.
i couldnt live in NY. it seems like yall HAVE to have interaction with the police. I can barely stand to see them fools ridin by.
OCCIFER, OCCIFER, someone is getting mugged, help!!!
Oh wait, he can’t hear us..he’s got his iPOD on..
Will they get a ticket if using the device while crossing the street?
Will they get a ticket if driving the patrol car and using iPod at the same time, while running a red light?
I can see them using the radio transmitter to play it on their speakers. maybe even over the siren. Imagine the sirens then. A Just Blaze remix playing as they stop BG for speeding.
Using london england as a socal model for surveylence an over police dose not help NY at all.
if it isn’t gonna help reduce the crime rate it’s useless.

But it could give the officers a reason to stay alert, if I could listen to something while I was on the job I would be more alert and actually give a shit about what I was doing.
O.COM,
They are not “trained professionals” until they complete 6 months of extensive training and get sworn in. By the way, it’s SUPPOSEDLY and they didn’t JUST learn how to implement the procedures, it’s part of the training. As for ethics, it’s part of the curriculum and thank god. Judging by your comments, you could use a crash course more than anyone. I’m glad to see you’re not a New Yorker because there’s no room for ignorant, uneducated morons here. The police here put their lives at risk for pennies everyday so we can feel just a little safer in our day to day routines. They deserve to be honored and respected. People like you make their lives and jobs much more difficult. In conclusion, please sit back, take a deep breath, read a book or two, perhaps complete your high school education. Gain some knowledge before you make an ass of yourself again.
