CompUSA: The end of an era?
Since 1984, consumers and businesses alike have benefited from CompUSA’s technology-centric lineup of products. But could the chain be closing its doors? According to leaked e-mail communications from Best Buy, CompUSA’s holiday revenue was less than half of what it was in the previous year. Additionally, shipments have been delayed past February, and it is rumored that the retailer has a lineup of individuals waiting to assist them in the closing of the 103 stores. As with any rumors, take them with a grain of salt; however, after closing 126 stores in February, we wouldn’t be surprised if this rumor came to fruition.

That’s really too bad, COMPUSA was one of the greatest computer-related chains that ever lived and since they closed most of their stores in their homeland (California), they really are going to go the way of the DODO.
Why don’t we make this post a contribution to what was and hopefully what will remain one of the greatest computer-related chains of all time.
HERE HERE!!, TO COMPUSA!! MAY YOUR LIFE BE SPARED BY THE WRATH OF THE EVIL ONE.

That’s a tough pill to swallow, especially during the holidays. Hope they pull through.

I hate to see any company go under. Hopefully they’ll pick up in the next quarter.

I remember when I was seven and went with my dad to CompUSA to buy my famliy’s first computer. It was the happiest day of my life. Could this be the beginning of a trend where brick & mortar goes the way of the brick cellphone? I hope not.

Best Buy could’ve just bought them out and take over their stores to grown their retail store chain.

I thought that for the last 10 years they have sucked. How many times would they have an unbelievable sale price on some tech item. You head to the store immediately only to find out that that they were out of stock and had not had any in stock for several weeks. After the fifth or sixth time, I gave up on them.

No surprise about their sales, they closed a bunch of stores over the summer. Too bad though.

They had tons of product selection but it wasn’t very organized, it felt like you were stepping into a warehouse full of random goods everywhere. It also failed because of it’s emploees who were often paid commission. There was also a lack of employees to help customers from my own experience.

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving company.
You reap what you sow, CompUSA.

This is the result of CompUSA’s own doing. They consistantly priced themselves higher then Circuit City and Bestbuy. It’s no wonder that those two companies are thriving inspite of NewEgg’s growth.

bb4life,
Good point, you just reminded me of the monitor and warranty I bought from them. Maybe our warranties will go the way of the DODO as Jeff.B indicated…
