T-Mobile down due to flooding?
We’re just going off some tips right now, but it sounds like T-Mobile might be experiencing some issues with their website and call centers. The problems seem to stem from significant flooding at their central data center in Bothell, WA. Western Washington has been experiencing something close to a torrential downpour, so it’s no surprise to see that local businesses are affected. What isn’t clear, however, is just how widespread the outage is and whether it’s affecting customers outside of the Western Washington area. T-Mobile CS is acknowledging the issue, but won’t (or can’t) give any info on the specifics. We’ll have to wait a bit to see how this pans out, but for now…are any of you experiencing issues with T-Mobile call centers? Maybe this would be a good time for ole’ T-Mobile to pull the trigger on some 3G action, right?

I have a Curve and I’m not getting BIS e-mails. Also, tried to check my balance and got an error. Anyone else?

My god, the wonders of the internets…
I suddenly realize that since approx. yesterday, 12/2/2007,
1) their website’s down
2) got “circuits busy” on a call an hour ago, which never happens and
3) #BAL#, #MIN# both return “Can’t access network” on my phone.
Also, rather than give me a busy tone when a phone I’m calling is engaged, it says “No Answer” (which made me think the phone i was calling was dead).
So’s I put two and two together, decide to do some research and see if there’s a bigger problem with T-mobile and yep, there’s my explanation on the ‘net. Thanks Josh (& Google)!

Mmm…intriguing, an e-mail from the t-mo rep told me that my upgrade request of Tytn II/MDA Vario III will forward to her supervisors…is anything implied here?

Maybe they should just skip the 3G and hit the 4G.
3G is so 2007 anyways, it’s 4G time!!

we’re in Edmonds, WA, not far from Bothell, and yes, we have had the second wettest day in our history, and incidents in Bothell, among many others, have made the local news. OTOH, I just called my home phone from my cell successfully.

Totally not true. The networks are functional. 3G or 4G for this matter will not resolve the power. Their is flooding at their main data center. That’s all, nothing more.

I’m in Seattle. I can’t access the website and do get an error when I do #BAL#. I sent myself a test email over BIS that took about 20 minutes to be delivered, then a second one that showed up instantaneously. Go figure.
And it’s still raining here.

What happened was the flooding from the stom was coming in faster than the water can be pumped out. The reason why this affects everyone is because that pretty much all the important servers are in the western Washington area. Voice mail isn’t there, so that should be okay. 3G won’t fix what has happened. It was good ol’ Mother Nature that caused this. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

Hello, I live less than five miles from the T-Mobile data center in Bothell,WA. The area where the data center is located is one of the hardest hit places hit my urban flooding in Seattle. The data center is next to a creek that has overflowed.
Just want to note, down the street from the T-Mobile data center AT&T has a huge data center, IT operations and a huge call center for AT&T business customers. I have not heard anything about AT&T being affected.

I am in the MidWest on a BB curve 8320 going through wap.voicestream.com

Here in Las Vegas, tracepath to t-mobile.com stops 3 hops out, and I cannot access UMA nor any of t-mobile’s services, except that gprs seems to be working ok.
Isn’t this what they call disaster preparedness?? Where’s the sand bags when you need ‘em anyway?

The report is correct - The main data center is flooded right now, so we only have email and our coverage/outage map. No accounts can be accessed due to the systems being out, so this can and will affect short codes such as #646#, #225#, the website and just about every system. It started around 7:30pm EST and was still happening when I left around 2:00 am EST. They were hoping to at least get read only systems online in the next few hours, so that we can at least do a little for the customers. Hopefully it will be back soon - Any techies have a clue how long it takes to dry out servers and get them back online - That should give a better idea on timelines.

Sean, we’ve had more than 5 BILLION gallons of rain fall here in the past two days.
(I live about 40 miles south of Bothell, where the data center is located, so we’re not as hard hit here.)
When you wrap your head around that then you can talk about planning for it.
Meantime, people should really view the Seattle Times Web site (www.seattletimes.com), to see the carnage going on in that area where the data center is (Bothell/Kenmore/Woodinville). It’s a wreck up there.
They closed Interstate 5 south of the state capital.
We’re talking record rainfall for an area known for the wet stuff.

Phone service seems uninterrupted though. The UMA and regular tmobile network works fine. Just thought I would add this since they said their main data center was effected by this and someone cried about redundancy. What counts is working, my phone. And blackberry was having na outage at the same time so that part is not tmobiles fault.

I’m roaming overseas, and I’ve had no service interruption through BIS.

I live one block from the main tmobile headquarters and it’s fine. Can’t say the same about the data center though. bellevue is so hilly that one block could be flooded while another one right across the street may completely fine.
