WiBrain B1 unboxing!
Here we have the WiBrain B1. It’s a new UMPC that features a 1.2GHz intel processor, 1GB of RAM, a 60GB HD, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Why does that really matter? Well, remember how UMPCs were supposed to "affordable"? This one is priced at $849, which we can’t argue with! It uses the split QWERTY thumb pad arrangement that the Samsung Q1 Ultra uses, but in our usage, it worked pretty well. Let’s not fool ourselves, it took some getting used to, but the buttons were placed and sized nicely, with awesome tactile feedback. See that word, UMPC / mini-Computer makers? Tactile. This has it, and even has a pop-up webcam with built-in mic which was pretty cool. The screen looked gorgeous with a 4.8" 1024×600 resolution, so the unit is definitely wide. It’s a real UMPC, so that’s to be expected. We were completely pleased with the unit, found it to be light and easy to use and navigate (especially since it uses a touch-pad for the mouse), and the price makes it all the more appealing!
UPDATE: It uses a VIA processor, not Intel!

Thanks, Dynamism!

Ah yes, a new gadget that Just Blaze can run Serato on…That would be ill
this is really cool and pretty cheap, are they in stock for xmas shipping?
Thought it has a Via cpu, not Intel
I think am placing my order for this. Does anyone know if the RAM is upgradable?
Looks good and if that is the price I might consider getting one. Are those the actual specs or still pending change.
I guess I just don’t get it. Why would I pay $850 for one of these when you can get laptops for $500 right now? I don’t think that you can carry this in your pocket so its NOT that portable is it?
U G L Y
sorry
Agreed. Rather carry a laptop.
lookskinda fugly.

Funny to talk about UMPC and not a single mention of battery life. Show me something that will run for a day and I’ll start to get interested. Does anyone know what this thing will do?
I am the only one that the b-key is on the right, When I type the letter B I always use my left hand. I know I would be able to get use to it but will switching from this type of keyboard to a standard keyboard would be to much to handle. Would make it to hard for me to go to my favorate Blog Boy Genius Reports
I was considering waiting for this to come out but decided to get a Fujitsu LifeBook U810 this weekend instead. Its battery, even with WiFi running and reasonable use goes a good 5 hours so far. I’m really impressed.
I’ll admit I may have to get one of these too.
It looks saweetah!! BG, can you share the awesome device love with the rest of us?
Would be ill if this real estate was all touchscreen.
First I want to say thanks for sharing the unboxing experience.
Next I have a possible reasoning for the design. When I first viewed pictures of the Wibrain it reminded me of a game-pad controller with a screen in the middle–kinda like the Gameboy micro. Add to that the first video I saw of the thing was it being used to play Quake, and I’d say it was probably designed by and for gamers.
Lastly, I have a question. The accessory list states that there is a USB Gender adapter; but I haven’t seen anything to demonstrate the function of it. As we all know, there are a number of specific applications where such could be useful. Could it be used to connect to another computer for faster transfer of large files?
thanks,
Jamie
The battery life of this one is as follows:
Manufacturer spec – 5 hours
Dynamism “real world” – 3 hours
Therefore it isn’t gonna win any awards on battery life’ but it’s better than some.
If you’re looking for long battery life, may I suggest the Everun? That’s the one I was going to buy until the WiBrain came out. It has enough specs above the Everun and a price below it to make it worth it for me to loose the extra battery life.
regards,
Jamie
Yes, Feech, this is one of the few UMPC’s that ACTUALLY fit in your pocket. That’s what makes it so interesting. My question:
Does anyone know if this can run vista? I have yet to find any mention of it anywhere, yet it seems to have a good enough video card…
Thanks.
three or four hours on battery life. not very long, but if you buy the whole package, you get an ac adapter, which is great for in car use or whatever.
I use to have a 15″ laptop mounted in my truck for my job, to much room consumer, now I got my wibrian on the console instead, running Data base, GPS and mp3’s you can’t beat that. plus is way more portable.
