BlackBerry 9000 specs revealed, our early Christmas present to you
Let’s start this off this by stating there’s more to this device than what will be listed. This is just what’s known at this point, although these details have yet to be confirmed as final specifications. One of the BlackBerry 9000 devices will sport a screen with the dimensions of 480 x 320 (or maybe that’s 320 x 480), 1GB of on-board memory, and an Intel XScale PXA270 processor at 624MHz, clocking in slightly faster than the 620MHz ARM 1173 processor found in the iPhone. The BlackBerry 9000 will also sport the dual-threat of GPS and WiFi as well as introducing 3G support (multi-band HSDPA) to the GSM carrier family devices, answering the prayers of many of us. At this point in time, there’s no update to the camera, which remains at 2 megapixels, although we’re hearing there is the possibility of seeing a 3.2 megapixel camera at launch. You all know the drill! Rest of the goodies, after the break!
No features, both software and hardware, that are currently enabled in OS 4.3 and above will be missing from the 9000-series family. This doesn’t rule out a major change in direction for the BlackBerry OS, as there is a strong possibility that what we’ll see in the future will either be completely different, or at least it will look the part of a distant - but more intelligent and handsome - cousin.
Barring a massive breakthrough in pixels per inch capacity in the 480 x 320 resolution, with the obvious increase in real estate, you have to wonder what will become of our beloved keyboard. We have yet to hear any final details in this arena, but this certainly will make for loads of speculation, both on the internet and off-net, of a touch screen or slider device. We’re not holding our breath with regards to the near-term introduction of any non-standard keyboard layouts from Research In Motion, though.
As you might have guessed, there’s no pricing or availability information for this device. If you want our opinion and pure speculation for a release date, based on the information we have, we’d expect this to drop sometime in Q1 - Q2 2008. Bring it, RIM!

I’m a BB tech for one of the leading service providers and have been working with BB for a while now, (before they had color). If the 9000 series doesn’t have a touch screen then it will be just like every other BB out there with a few extra specs, LAME!!! having a touch screen would be a leading sale factor for for this device. I’m not a big fan of the I-phone, however, for most that have ever played with one knows that the touch keyboard takes a little getting used to, but is relitivly easy to use. GPS, WI-FI, cameras, media players, they have already been done starting with the 8100 series. So why should HTC and apple have all the fun i like the concept of a touch screen, but i hate WM (windows mobile) and will never own one.

I think that Blackberry has hit it right on the head!! I think that for the business user as myself, I would like to see RIM and Microsoft get together to incorporate the Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and Power Point! I’ll be first in line…Hoping AT&T is the one!

I’m just about to purchase the newest BB Curve although I’m a bit disappointed that it doesn’t have touch screen. this is good news. am anxious to see the phone and I am willing to wait for it if it’s not taking too long to be released. The bottom line is; I just want to know how long before I can purchase my new phone.

I’ve worked for Tmobile corporate for going on 2 yrs now, I got my curve when it was released and will be a blackberry user for life. It is by far and away the best device I’ve owned. I believe the 9000 will be released by us to coincide with our 3g network upgrade mid year! I’m stoked!

Either you people are purposely misleading people or you are incredibly stupid. There is NO blackberry 9000 coming out!! I would have heard about it already, I am a blackberry tech, and there are no official sites that talk about the blackberry 9000. I just met with people from RIM (the maker of blackberry) today and they told me that it was a joke. Some people took a Blackberry Curve and edited it with adobe photoshop to make it look like an iphone with touch screen and called it the Blackberry 9000. It’s a fake!!!
In fact, RIM told me they will probably never manufacture anything like the iphone. They will always have keyboards.

i am currently a BB user (8130) and before that i had the regular Pearl for a long time. i can not imagine a better phone for every day life.
i dont want to be the one to break this to yall, but it seems that theres a bit of confusion going on. The picture you guys see is a “photoshop” and is not a reflection of any up-coming BB phones. If anything- according to “BoyGenius” site- it has been cleared by a BB representative that RIM has no intentions as of yet for a touchscreen BB.
so again, the picture you all see is not the picture of any upcoming BB phone.

Oh please the picture of a 8300 curve that has been photo shopped I just took a look at what the real 9000 may look like and it’s beautiful. Trust me RIM will never get rid of the keypad because a blackberry is a tool not toy like the iphone which is going to get blown out of the water by the 9000.

NO!! RIM does not need a touch screen device. This is a business tool that does not deal to deal with the hassle and issues of touchscreen devices. This is going to be a step down actually for RIM if this is true. Looks photoshopped anyway.
