BlackBerry 9000 specs revealed, our early Christmas present to you
Let’s start this off this by stating there’s more to this device than what will be listed. This is just what’s known at this point, although these details have yet to be confirmed as final specifications. One of the BlackBerry 9000 devices will sport a screen with the dimensions of 480 x 320 (or maybe that’s 320 x 480), 1GB of on-board memory, and an Intel XScale PXA270 processor at 624MHz, clocking in slightly faster than the 620MHz ARM 1173 processor found in the iPhone. The BlackBerry 9000 will also sport the dual-threat of GPS and WiFi as well as introducing 3G support (multi-band HSDPA) to the GSM carrier family devices, answering the prayers of many of us. At this point in time, there’s no update to the camera, which remains at 2 megapixels, although we’re hearing there is the possibility of seeing a 3.2 megapixel camera at launch. No features, both software and hardware, that are currently enabled in OS 4.3 and above will be missing from the 9000-series family. This doesn’t rule out a major change in direction for the BlackBerry OS, as there is a strong possibility that what we’ll see in the future will either be completely different, or at least it will look the part of a distant - but more intelligent and handsome - cousin.
Barring a massive breakthrough in pixels per inch capacity in the 480 x 320 resolution, with the obvious increase in real estate, you have to wonder what will become of our beloved keyboard. We have yet to hear any final details in this arena, but this certainly will make for loads of speculation, both on the internet and off-net, of a touch screen or slider device. We’re not holding our breath with regards to the near-term introduction of any non-standard keyboard layouts from Research In Motion, though.
As you might have guessed, there’s no pricing or availability information for this device. If you want our opinion and pure speculation for a release date, based on the information we have, we’d expect this to drop sometime in Q1 – Q2 2008. Bring it, RIM!
This is great if it’s true. Definetly something I would pick up. I hope that the OS is updated too.

I would drop most of the devices that I have wanted for that baby if the specs are even close to what you have. It sounds like it will be a powerhouse of a device. Would only assume that true competition would come from the next iPhone as far as looks, and evn the that can be debated. I would even go as far as to say that the device could be even more reliable than iPhone for both consumers, Blackberry Unite?!-was that the name?!, and regular BES companies. I have had a BB for only a few months and find it to be one of the best devices that I have had.

Sounds promising. Too many questions still unanswered though.
-Needs to have an OS upgrade, hopefully thats done by launch.
-Need answers about keyboard, doubt it would be anything too far from what they currently use.
-Are they going to release base models first and then release features over the course of the year again?
-What can be done with the 1gb onboard? is it as restricted as usual?
-Have they overhauled the browser?
-Any change to email formats?
Too many questions for people (other than RIM fanboys) to get all hot and bothered. But the screen sounds good.
BG need to reference that pic as a mockup cause more places are going to think that is an actual 9000 phone.
and I call BS on BG for anything showing up 1st quarter of ‘08. Thats done just to drive up the hype.
It cannot succeed as a Blackberry without a hardware keyboard. Period.

It would have to be a slider or flip like voyager. If not this thing will be huge.
So it has about the same processor as iphone, same screen resolution, possibly touch interface. Hmm GPS, 3G and wifi included also.
Sounds alot like an iphone and next iphone.
They better hurry and get these out before next iphone, because then their specs / performance will be behind again.
620mhz on the iphone?? My ipod touch is 412mhz after upgrade to 1.1.2 and it should be the same as the iphone?! correct me if im wrong

Didn’t RIM recently (Q4 2007)file a patent for some type of “scrolling” keyboard? it looked like a touchscreen with a hidden keyboard you could scroll up with a push from your thumb.
I’d finally switch carriers for this one…
especially with 3G and the fact it works with my company’s email systems without jumping through all the hoops.
Hope they improve the internet browser when they release it tho…

I don’t get the point of where rim its goin with this because BB are already the best in its field as a business tool. now if they start chasing over the iPhone where goin to lose because iPhone is also the best in its own field thats apple said it from the beginning that the iPhone was not ment for business

Will this be for GSM or CDMA? CDMA (Verizon in this matter) is always last to get the new and hip phones…..
snitch: it is possible for rim to manufacture both consumer and business devices. the curve was not meant to replace the 8800 series, just to target a different crowd. i highly doubt this device will symbolize the demise of the 8800’s and other business handsets they plan to put out in the future.
