LG Shine surpasses the 5 million mark, now available on AT&T

LG’s Shine has just landed on American soil (at least in fully-subsidized carrier-branded form), but the product line has been enjoying significant success on the international scene. LG announced that over 5 million Shines have been sold since the handset’s October 2006 debut. That’s a lot of phones, people! It’s easy to get worked up about 1 million iPhones here, and another million HTC Touch’s there, but 5 million handsets in just over a year is no joke. Congrats, LG. The better news, at least for those of us here in the US, is that AT&T is now pushing their very own HSDPA-capable Shine. Life’s Good, right? Right.

From what I understand at&t shine has plastic back and downgraded lens. It would be wonderful if someone hint hint would do an expose on the difference between the original manufactured phone and the at&t branded downgraded stuff. This assumes people arent in thier back pocket…………

Although it’s a pretty cool looking phone, I don’t really care for sliders. :-/

I’m sure it will do fairly well in the US.
Although, that could depend on how ridiculously priced it is.

Jon, you just mention ATT but all US carriers downgrade some of their devices. Verizon is notorious for doing this. I dont think it requires an expose.

…Oh I made my comment too soon.

After taking a look at the actual At&t version of the Shine, I see they’ve really messed the phone up.

I don’t know why they felt a wheel would be a better choice for navigation. Doesn’t the original Shine have a bar for navigation?

The At&t design is just ugly. Unfortunate. Oh well.

    @ JJDon,

The Euro Shine has a scroll [roll up and down, but click for left and right] and the US Shine has a joystick.

looks like it’s sticking its’ tongue out for a rolling stones poster.

The picture on the left looks cool. Nice big screen. Then, in the picture on the right you see this flange sticking out and it’s like saying

sorry – you have to use these funky keys if you want to do anything.

and any time you want to do anyting it’s like

    slide ‘er open
    do something
    slide it closed

    open/close
    open/close

    repeat and repeat

I just got the shining this weekend. so far so good. the phone feels very sturdy and well made. part of the outer frame is metal, which is nice for durability. the 2megapixel camera/videocamera with flash is very nice. better than the iPhone (which i just got rid of to get this phone, don’t get the iPhone – IT SUCKS!) the sound is good on both ends. i have not played with the MP3 or WEB applications yet. the scrollbar on the front is a bit annoying, but the other keys and setup work well. i am going to play with it for another week and see how i like it after that, if not…back to AT&T it goes. but as of right now, for the price i would say its a really good phone.

I have been looking for a new phone recently, and I stumbled across the Shine on the AT&T website. I googled it, but I got pics of 2 different phones. Why is the US one different from the euro one? Does it still work with AT&T or do i have to buy the US one? Which one is better? I like the euro screen but the US joy stick also. Help!
