Could T-Mobile be poised to announce 3G on December 6th?

This could be the move that T-Mobile USA customers have been waiting for. According to anecdotal reports, the answer is yes. We’re calling "rumor!" on this one until further confirmation, but that won’t stop us from getting just a wee bit excited over the prospect. Apparently a company spokesperson, citing "internal documents," informed a customer that T-Mobile will be making an announcement about certain 3G services "on or before December 6th, 2007." Sounds a bit fishy to us, but we suppose time will tell. Lord knows a little high-speed data love could go a long way for the company’s customers who are still stuck on that ancient EDGE network. But again, we seriously doubt this.

    Before you buy anything, you first need to make sure the phone you get can work with 3G networks, then you need to make sure that the 3G network is going to cover the areas that you reside and work in. Thats’s the only way to take advantage of the technology. I recently left TMO because of the lack of 3G service. Needed a network that would allow me to use my phone as a modem on the road. TMO doesn’t have it, and it will take time before it’s out there and usable. Web they have it completely rolled out, then they can play with the others. They certainly have the best pricing and customer service.

    about the waiting issue, I recently upgraded to the curve, i have no regrets. it is a flipping awesome handest. It would be nice to have 3g but the wi-fi and uma as well as the camera make it a great buy while waiting and waiting for 3g to come about.

    What are the odds that TMO will be announcing 3G service that will be launching almost immediately. Followed by an announcment from RIM that they will have a blackberry 8XXX model that will take full advantage of the new network????

    Hey BUSH got elected TWICE- this “COULD” happen lol (PLEASE SWEET BABY JEEZUS)

    8820 is a good phone but the only thing it has on the 8320 is gps and you can change media card without removing battert. The keys on the 8820 are to cramed together and there is no camra. I would stay with curve 8320 unless you need gps or can’t use camra phone where you work.

    I have a T639 and I’m in NYC and nowhere on my phone does it say “3G”. I’m guessing in order to GET 3G they’ll have to send me a new simcard or something.

    tekneek: Get the Curve. you’ll love it.

    Dand: I never said I would get rid of my “Jesus phone” for the 6263. I’d get the 6263 on my other line and keep my Curve on my dealer line.

    Everyone else: Ok. I called my T-Mo rep to “confirm” this rumor. She said that 3g services will launch sometime next year (doesn’t know a timeframe). But is starting to release some 3g-capable phones before the initial launch.

    Is Tmo still using different freq. than ATT? if so then why are you saying the Tilt can use Tmo 3G when it cannot?

    @Dtest5477-Thanks for the clarification lol. I havent heard anything about t-mobs using anything other than 1700/2100 for 3G either, so the tilt may display a 3G logo on the homescreen, but i doubt its getting 3G speeds

    T-Mobile will use UMTS on 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz;
    ATT uses 850/1900. Correct me if im wrong so unlocked ATT 3G phones will not use Tmo 3G.

    I believe in the testing phase tmobile needed to test their network and at the time of testing ther wernt any phone manufactures making a 1700/2100 unts handsets.I can easily why an unlocked tilt would work but once 3g goes live I wouldn’t rely on an unlock 3G phone from ATT working with tmobile new 3g network

    To all T639 users [and anyone else who may know...]

    It is possbile that T-Mobile is using the Samsung E490 as the T639 and will switch to the Samsung Z240 when they get 3G?

    The E490 and Z240 are identile, except the Z240 has 3G w/ videocall camera instead of Edge w/o videocall camera like the E490, it’s slightly bigger and heavier, and has more internal memory…

    Here they are:
