Could T-Mobile be poised to announce 3G on December 6th?

This could be the move that T-Mobile USA customers have been waiting for. According to anecdotal reports, the answer is yes. We’re calling "rumor!" on this one until further confirmation, but that won’t stop us from getting just a wee bit excited over the prospect. Apparently a company spokesperson, citing "internal documents," informed a customer that T-Mobile will be making an announcement about certain 3G services "on or before December 6th, 2007." Sounds a bit fishy to us, but we suppose time will tell. Lord knows a little high-speed data love could go a long way for the company’s customers who are still stuck on that ancient EDGE network. But again, we seriously doubt this.

I just don’t see it happening. I’m a current employee and there has been absolutely NO literature and even talking to the samsung rep about the t639, he guesses mid january for “unnofficaial 3g phone”.

The 8320 uses wifi not UMTS. You should get the curve now waiting for 3G isn’t going to help you get any faster speeds.

How does buying a curve now help you…their are no 3G BB at this point…aside from that T-Mobs EDGE is not even up to par, so they move into 3G..ya that makes sense..

Doesn’t t-mo have something with 3G speeds…oh wait they do the WiFi HotSpot at home deal, that’s right. Sprint does the WiMAX thing. I got it now.

    @ gadgetchic

Supposedly its because the govt. is still using the bands that T-mobile purchased for their 3G. They’re migrating it all to new bands but they had six years to do it in. T-mobile was going to throw some more money at it to get it done faster. Apparently they did.

The only thing I’d really care about if a new entrant into the wireless broadband aircard/data modem business.

Verizon, Sprint and at&t need more competition to lower prices.

If T-Mobile can pull this off right and price it competitively, all of us will benefit regardless of which carrier we have.

So if i purchased the 8320 now, i would not see the benefits of 3G bc the 8320 is not 3G compatible right????

    tek, yes you are correct.

Galvatron, isn’t Tmo going to be using a different 3G frequency than ATT so the unlocked Tilt would not work with a Tmo 3G network.

there has been talk over the past year that there has been a t-mo 3g network being tested in the t-mo mecca (Bellvue WA). If it istrue they are going to be rolling this out i would think it would be in large metropolitan areas.. ie new york, LA, etc.
