GPS / Rev A. coming for Sprint Mogul in 2008
This sounds promising. Sprint has pulled a double move here, acknowledging issues with the last round of Mogul ROM updates, while at the same time making some pretty exciting promises about the next planned firmware version. The company has released a statement apologizing for the lack of fixes in the last Mogul ROM update. The update was supposed to deal with some pretty specific Bluetooth issues. Sprint is now saying, however, that the best course of action for anyone still experiencing those issues is to downgrade their firmware to the previous version. Seems like a strange course of action, but we’ll ride with it given the next bit of info. Sprint has also said that the Mogul will be getting some GPS capabilities come Q1 2008. The exact quote from Sprint follows:
Additionally, HTC is currently developing a separate ROM update which enables the EV-DO Rev. A and GPS capabilities that are already built into the Mogul hardware. Sprint and HTC plan to make this software ROM available in early 1Q 2008. We would also like to extend our thanks to those customers that have taken the time to identify and report these issues to us.
GPS, huh? Sounds good to us, but Rev A. sounds a whole lot better.

so a regular GPS device does not require a service subscription. Why the hell does a sprint phone with GPS cap. need to subscribe for $10 a month?

I actually just got my Google maps on my Mogul and at first with factory setting NO GPS satilites could be found

How do you install that new ROM/Firmware. Please email me directions/steps to install and activate. I’m very interested with the GPS capability. I have a navigation program, and currently I have to use an external bluetooth gps receiver. Email me if possible: veeshy749@yahoo.com

i loaded Visualgps but says cannot initialize com buffer size–not that I think it will work anyway
I need to find someone in S. California to meke my Mogul do gps with tomtom or one that tells turn on Main St. I can pay. k90802@yahoo

Well, I just upgraded to WM 6.1 today without a hitch. Used a free backup/restore software to save my contacts (http://www.dotfred.net), used active sync to explore the phone and copy most files “just in case”. I was bummed the GPS didn’t work with google maps but they did include a 4 day trial of the sprint navigator, then did a google search and came here and found the COM4 setting for the gps, went and stood by the window and it works!!! Both google maps and MS Maps. Outside of the task manager, the other updates don’t do anything for me. I still have to get RDP and PDANet running again, but I’m a happy camper now with GPS. The phone just paid for itself again…
