Doh: Man with iPhone gets owned on an airplane

Have you seen the commercial in which the pilot talks about avoiding a 3 hour delay thanks to his iPhone? Yeah…we don’t buy it either. But, someone did, and got spanked because of it. Because of weather delays, a guy’s plane gets diverted to a different airport. But, thanks to his trusty iPhone, the man notices the all-clear, and notifies the Flight Attendant. When relayed to the pilot, the pilot responded over the air with:

“If the passenger with the iPhone would be kind enough to use it to check the weather at our alternate, calculate our fuel burn due to being rerouted around the storms, call the dispatcher to arrange our release, and then make a phone call to the nearest Air Traffic Control center to arrange our timely departure amongst the other aircraft carrying passengers with iPhones, then we will be more than happy to depart. Please ring your call button to advise the Flight Attendant and your fellow passengers when you deem it ready and responsible for this multi-million dollar aircraft and its passengers to safely leave.”

You knew this was going to happen sooner rather than later…Just classic!

I would of walked up to the cockpit flicked the pilot in the forhead and then asked then flight attendant if she has her GED or she found a diploma in a cracker jack box. Who cares about some super nerd who thinks he can determine if its ok to fly. Isn’t that the purpose of an iphone? To feel cooler than you actually are.

haha….PWNed. I hate those iphone commercials, espcially the one with the pilot. If you knew anything about the airline industry, you would know that commercial is a fake. And if you knew anything about mobile phones, then you would know practically any phone can check weather. everyone, quit thinking the iphone is cutting edge. Its technology and specs are outdated, and touchscreen is not as usable as everyone thinks. Other manufacturers have come out with touchscreen years before Apple, and theres a reason why it never took off……NOTHING BEATS REAL BUTTONS! qwerty = thumbs up, touchscreen = garbage.

I call B.S… if you follow all the links, there is no source story, just a blog where one of the blog’s readers sent them in their tale… Sounds like a lot of pilots are pissed about that commercial, but this story sounds manufactured.

But they left out: “And upon arrival at the diversion airport the passenger was immediately arrested for using his cell phone while in flight.”

I call bullsh!t on this. Speaking as a pilot, no pilot would ever say this over the intercom, let alone listen to any passenger’s complaints about the weather or what’s going on. The tower has control over everything, like it or not, while you’re on the ground. This sounds too made up.

If instead of an iPhone, the jerk had used any other phone, probably the above commenter will say that the story is legit.

It’s easy to spot an Apple fanboi, after all.

I don’t know, this sounds like B.S. ’cause why would a pilot ask that? It seems very unprofessional but this is the good iPhone news, stupid people doing stupid things to try to be cooler than they are.
