Sidekick Slide pulled from T-Mobile?
Giz is reporting that the Sidekick Slide has pulled from T-Mobile. Various reports are coming in about the handset disappearing off T-Mobile’s site, and other insiders have said that the Slide has been yanked. From our brief visit to T-Mobile’s website, the Sidekick Slide simply lists as "Temporarily Unavailable." Whether this means they have temporary pulled stock to fix the major "slide" issue we first reported on, or are actually discontinuing the device is unknown. This can’t bode well for Danger’s relationship with Motorola, can it? Flip it up! Flip it up! Flip it up!

UPDATE: Here’s the official statement from T-Mobile:
"T-Mobile USA suspended sales of the T-Mobile Sidekick Slide™ on Friday evening, Nov. 16, after Motorola – the manufacturer of the device – confirmed that some devices may inadvertently power off when the slide door on the front side of the phone is opened or closed.
T-Mobile has taken this action to help ensure our customers only receive devices we’re confident will perform at their peak, so they can stay effortlessly connected to those who matter most.
Motorola is currently working to identify the root cause of the power cycle issue in affected Sidekick Slide devices. The T-Mobile Sidekick LX™ and Sidekick iD™ are not affected by this issue.
If a customer purchased a Sidekick Slide that is experiencing the unintended power cycle issue, they may contact T-Mobile Customer Care, or go to a T-Mobile retail store, for assistance and to discuss available options."
UPDATE 2: We received word that any Sidekick Slide owners that report the power issue will receive a free upgrade to the Sidekick LX with free express shipping. You won’t have a color choice, though. You’ll get the blue LX.

Whoa! This is crazy! I almost bought the Slide, too.

Mmm. If only att would pull some of Motorolas phones from our shelves, life would be complete. This proves Motorola can make a phone look great but still be junk.

device is being pulled due to battery defect. tmo is currently extending buyers remorse period or offering credit towards another device if you want to exchange it. or they are offering a straight up trade for the sk lx *blue only*

All Motorola’s phones are shit just look at the RAZR. And really, why would you get a slide when you could get an LX? Johnny wanted boasting rights to say that he has a Moto SK, what was that Johnny? Nobody cares? No, no, no Johnny don’t cry, it’s not that Motos are shi…well maybe they are but somebody might like it…or not oh is it because the kids at school called you gay because it’s purple? OK Johnny we’ll bring it back for the blue LX tomorrow. But you see Johnny, this wasn’t ever meant to come out of Moto’s factories for obvious reasons.

Yes the “options” are a free sidekick lx (only option is blue) with free express shipping. Don’t believe me? Call T-Mobile and ask

Say what you want about T-Mobile, I think its pretty good customer service of them to offer you the LX which is like $100 more than those crappy sidekick slides.

folks, remember that this is an OEM phone: motorola has no hand in the design and manufacture of this phone. danger/zante is the culprit. they designed it, they tested it, they manufactured it. motorola just stamped their “M” on it. its like blaming ford when your mustang fails due to a sparkplug issue. ford didnt have anything to do with sparkplug design and manufacture, they bought it from their oem … champion or whatever.
get your facts straight before jumping in like a bulldog bent on blaming motorola.

Tis’ true the OEM is Danger/Zante, however by stamping the “M” on it, Motorola “owns” it. They should have done their own QA process prior to giving it the “M” and marketing it.
Not the first time, won’t be the last. They’ll resolve it. I like the slide better than the flip IMHO.

Umm, in regards to the OEM, it is not an OEM phone. This was designed and manufactured by Moto… Danger makes the operating systems for the most part. And Danger/Zante? Zante is Motorola’s internal name for this phone… get YOUR facts straight.
Still Motorola should have listened to their QA & beta testers, this problem was known but the phone was already past its initially scheduled release so chalk it up to rushing to get it out.

And my guess is Moto will replace and reissue batteries to resolve this problem. If you take a look at the batteries on the phone now, the white label covers the battery contacts a little bit. This I presume may be causing some of these issues. I guess we’ll hear something soon!

Only on T-Ghetto!

@Sean: This has nothing to do with T-Mobile. It is a Motorola issue. If it were on Verizon, Sprint or AT&T, it would similarly have no bearing on the provider. Then again, I doubt the others would have responded to the issue as well as T-Mobile has, but that may very well be why they’re ranked No. 1 for Customer Service for years now.

Yeah this has nothing to do with the carrier (t mobile usa) it has every thing to do with the device manufactur (ghettorla) danger just codes the OS. It would seem we have. Moto apoligists as well as apple applogists and att apoligists.

“motorola just stamped their “M” on it” i think they had a little more to do with the manufacturing of this phone than you believe.
as to your ford example, couldn’t you blame ford for using inferior parts? i would.
Pathetic Moto, shame on you.

i really liked the design and i was going to get the phone yesterday =[
does anyone know if the phone is strictly going to be discontinued?! i hope not…tell me the news >.

further proof that the only decent tmobile phones are the blackberrys. They do everything the SK’s can, and weigh much less. I wish this wasn’t the case, Im sick of blackberrys, but I have tried enough TMO phones to know that there is no comparison.

Effective immediately, sales of the Sidekick Slide will be suspended in all channels (including Upgrades) while an issue with the device is investigated.
The issue causes the device to automatically reset when the slide door on the front side of the phone is opened or closed. The phone powers back on automatically after several minutes if the customer does not restart it manually.
While we further explore the cause of this issue, we are offering T-Mobile Sidekick Slide customers who experience problems during their Buyer’s Remorse period the following ways to stay connected:
Exchange for a Sidekick LX (Blue only) at no additional charge (free express shipping).
Keep their existing Sidekick Slide until we have more information about the issue.
Return the device and apply the value of the original purchase price to a different handset or device.
The current device issue is limited to the Sidekick Slide product only. The Sidekick LX and Sidekick ID products are not impacted and sales of these products should continue as normal.

redsoxchamps2k7 you must be a T-Mobile employee to have the exact contents of the beginning of the slide policy…I’d be a little careful about copying and pasting streamline….prolly a really good way to get attention brought to you really quickly

I bought a sidekick slide, yeah the people are having problems with the sidekick slide, to many people are complaining about different things, and what happen was that some companys felt bad, so they gave away free XL Sidekick phones, free of charge because the slide wasn’t working, and they spent to much money on it, but I guess they are going to fix it up in time, because as far as I’m concerned, at least more than 1,000,000 people purchased the sidekick slide, and some are happy, and the other half is really upset………hope that help you realize what’s going on.
