That’s the word on the streets of Toronto. RIM is supposedly throwing a huge bash tonight for employees instead of a regular Christmas party. If our info is legit, it seems that they have rented the entire Air Canada Centre in Toronto for this evening. What good would a whole venue be without a performance, right? They’re rumored to have Van Halen perform, with Tragically Hip opening. The event is a "secret" event, branded as "RIM Rocks." You do rock, RIM.

at Lotusphere we had earth wind and fire, HA! Top that!!

=| I’d rather have Van Halen then Earth Wind and Fire.
And RIM’s had Aerosmith.

RIM rocks like my grandfather drives, slow and careful.
I guess they have to cater to an older crowd as to not seem to cater to the sidekick crowd.
Good for them, taken them along time to try to make their products stylish and hip.

My colleague is invited to that event tonight. Confirmed is Van Halen and The Hip. There is a rumor that John Mayer may also show. No invite for me

Curve w/ GPS (8310).
(There go spend more money as if a Tilt won’t satisfy all your needs as it is. Gosh.) Just messin’ with ya but really the Curve w/ GPS (8310) I think that’s the best.

No, Earth Wind and Fire are stupid. I was there, and I saw David Lee Roth wave a huge red flag and everyone in the crowd was using their blackberry to take a photo and it was much too loud. There was also that blimp being fired by a green laser. The encore had confetti everywhere, and EVH apologized for not playing for years and he made a mistake, and Roth told a story about his girlfriend in 1972.

I thought it was a great show. As for the coments about catering towards an older crowd, there are many younger employees at RIM and everyone seemed to be enjoying the show.
Also, think about it this way, Mike and Jim aren’t very old, so they basically just got their two favorite bands from when they were younger to play for them at the ACC. Pretty cool in my eyes.

A couple of questions ..Who headline any idea on what eacg group got paid and what was the total tab. Rim Rocks in more ways they one and when one adds up the whole tab it wasn’t as crazy an idea it would seem likely less than 500.00 per employee. And they get lifelong loyalty

I don’t think it was about doing something ‘crazy’. I think they decided to do this because the company has grown to much to be able to have a regular Christmas party because of the amount of employees now.
And it was employees + 1 guest (or more in some cases) so the ACC was completely packed. There must have been at least 14,000 people there.

Who is Earth Wind and Fire? Who cares…
Van Halen and The Hip were great. Van Halen put on an amazing show, which says a lot because they are some of the greatest rock bands ever, are are not exactly young. Most new artists will admit that Van Halen was one of their influences.
Van Halen had so much energy and just kept on rocking till the show ended. Wolfgang is only 16 and he was the least active
I will remember this show forever. RIM is the best company to work for.

Big thanks to the RIM employee that was kind enough to invite me to this amazing concert. I used to call on RIM when they were only 35 employees. Looking all around me and up high at the sold out show of 15,000 plus, I realized this is the fruition of two people that dared to dream!
For me, this event dug up old memories of the past - rocked out to the Eddie’s Eruption Alex’s relentless drum solo, David’s story and song about the ‘Ice Cream Man’ and of course the classic anthems like Panama and Jump!
Peace out!
