Helio shaves $50 off all handsets
Helio, everyone’s favorite MVNO, has just added one more notch on their why-you-should-switch-to-us belt. The company has just thrown a $50 price cut across the board. This brings the Ocean down to $199, the Fin to $79, and the Heat to $Free 99. Couple this with their current $99 unlimited calling, text, and data plan, and you’ve got one hell of a deal on your hands. It goes without saying, of course, that these prices are only available with a 2-year service contract, but with ETFs going the way of the Dodo, we wouldn’t be too concerned about signing on the dotted line. Hit the link for more info.
BGR makes no claims you will get out of your contract without an ETF. This is America, after all.

Thats a pretty hot deal but not better than T Mobile’s (and this is coming from an AT&T employee).

I really like Helio’s plans and phones. But, lets get real here.
How much longer is Helio even going to exist?

Three words that I’m waiting for before I’ll consider Helio: ONE YEAR CONTRACT
When they first started I think Helio had no contracts at all. Now they’re like every other phone company despite not wanting to be called a phone company. Too bad, they started off with some nice plans and hardware and a promise to be different. Now they’re resorting to two year contracts and some marketing bulls**t to pay the bills.

I’m a helio rep and I am wondering where you would find a better plan then the $99 unlimited everything. How does T-mobile beat our price plans? Our $99 plan includes unlimited minutes nation wide service, unlimited text, picture, and video messages. Includes unlimited internet, file transfers, gps(googlemaps, buddy beacon). I’ve worked for t-mobile, and what is your best deal for 99 dollars on a single line? I believe helio should have one years, but most companies all do the two years. If you were to get a one year contract you always have to pay extra for the phone (about 100). Our activation fee is $30, whereas t-mobiles is $36. Anytime you wanted to switch your price plan Helio does not extend your contract, whereas tmobile does extend when you do switch.

Helio, is partially owned by SK Telecom. Guess What? They just ponyed up MORE money to add new phones & allow them to make the rate plan changes to an MUCH lesser expensive UNLIMITED plan, something most other carriers don’t even offer! Helio is going to be around for quite time, simply because they do things DIFFERENTLY than ALL other carriers. They are in the growing stages yes, but their phones are well manufactured, their UI is not crippled & even 3rd party applications are being developed now for Helio Phones. I believe they have suceeded where AMP’d failed & that is to branch out & market at the right TIME.

You can’t just throw money at something and expect it to work. You’ve got a lot more faith in Helio than I do.

Lets be real, who would really want to switch from T-Mobile to Helio. I pay a little over $99 a month and might not have unlimted calls but I have a blackberry plan, unlimted text messages, hotspots@home, 1500 mins free nights and weekends and free mobile to mobile. I don’t really think that any trash of a phone that Helio has can even come close to a Blackberry. T-Mobile hands up, Helio hands down!

There is one good reason to switch from T-Mobile to Helio. T-Mobile’s coverage stinks.

I hate carrier UI’s. When using a carrier UI I get the same sickening feeling in my stomach as when using windows.

Maybe you’ve just never used a good carrier UI?
I like Helio’s UI.
I hope they price the Mysto this competitively. I love my Ocean but I want something a little more…svelte. Plus, 3.2 MP + flash + autofocus in the world’s thinnest slider? Uh, yeah, sign me up.

The Ocean is a great device, when it’s working. I’ve been through five (count ‘em, five) of them so far. I am always on the phone with Helio trying to fix something either on the phone or on the bill ever since I been in my contract. I’ve wasted numerous hours of my precious time trying to clear everything up and I haven’t gotten anything for my troubles except for more trouble. The customer service is pathetic, not one of the techs know what they’re doing or can help you in any way, not to mention you can’t ever understand what they are saying. When you get off of the phone with them, you’re not any closer to settling anything than you were before you picked up the phone.
I will definitely be paying a ETF so that I can get out of my contract early and go with another provider. This has been a horrible experiece thus far, would DEFINITELY NOT recommend Helio to anyone. I’ll probably be buying it’s competition, the iPhone.
