Comcast gets sued over P2P blocking
And the never ending battle continues. John Hart, a Californian Comcast customer, has sued the internet provider over the company’s peer to peer blocking policies. Hart claims that Comcast’s P2P practices are severely limiting his ability to use any file sharing programs, as well as limiting his access to Lotus Notes. Hart’s beef, it seems, is that the company didn’t sufficiently disclose their blocking practices when he signed up for service. This is just the latest chapter in an ongoing public backlash against the ISP, which has come under fire from consumer interest groups, individual customers, and the FCC itself. Comcast has continued to deny any wrongdoing, stating firmly that they do not block any traffic, though they do "delay" data from time to time. Smells a bit suspicious to us. Any Comcast users out there noticing they can’t get their copy of DVD SCR | American Gangster?

I’m a San Francisco Comcast customer and I’ve noticed that while I can get on Bittorrent, I cannot get on gnutella! It’s really pissing me off. I can get on gnutella w/ Cox cable in LA and at work, but not from my home… I thought it was the cheapo router, but if this is Comcast’s doing, i’ll be very pissed.

Oh TRUST its Comcast doing. Service lately has been getting slower & slower & they ARE blocking traffic. I connected to get some History Channel documentaries I missed over the weekend & Comcast conveniently kept dropping the connection!!! They do this everytime I connect up like that.

Banners like this are very likely ignored. If you want to get the attention of people inside and outside of that building, make the banner read: Comcast Admins Suck!
If a policy is meant to block P2P but it only works for some P2P networks (as implied by Kevin), and blocks valid use of apps like Lotus Notes, then it sounds like the policy was badly implemented on the routers.
Someone stinks at their job, no?

I have Comcast service in Chicago and everytime I would sign onto Limewire and start downloading, it would temporarily cut me off for a few hours or the night. I thought it was a bad connection everytime I connected but got even more pissed that Comcast intentionally does it. So much for paying the “premium”.

I’m a comcast customer in Alexandria Va, and it appears that Comcast is blocking the limewrie program. And that I cannot use the limewire program anymore.
The symptom of the limewire is as follows,
The signal strength bars never go to full connecting level ( 5 bars,
AND it takes forever to carryout a search with EMPTY results. So it seems my limewire client cannot even connect to any other clients out there.
I had been able to use the limewire program with Comcast about 8 months ago.

I am having the same problem with Comcast and Limewire. I just recently got Comcast and it worked on the 1st day that I used the internet but now it never gets past 1 connection bar. Limewire always worked fine for me when I had Embarq.
