Trouble in Moto Sidekick land

If you went out and bought yourself a brand new Motorola-manufactured Sidekick Slide, you might have noticed a problem — when you flip the screen up and down a couple times, the unit loses power — it restarts without notice. While this would be a major inconvenience just by itself, the new Sidekick Slide and Sidekick LX hard reset when the battery is pulled while the units are powered on. There lies the problem. Your unit effectively hard resets are random times. It could be in the middle of answering a phone call, sending an email or IM, or just about anything! All Sidekick data is stored on a back-end server, so if you don’t have service when that unit cuts back on, you are completely out of luck. Telstra recently launched the same device known as the hiptop slide, and our Aussie friends have alerted us to the same issue there! We love Moto’s take on the Sidekick, too. From the design, to the build quality and construction, but guys, you need to get your shizz together, ’cause this is crazy! In all fairness, we hit our Danger peeps and they are aware of the issue, so let’s see the next move that’s made. In the meantime, if your unit is experiencing these issues, it would be best to get it exchanged, though that might not do you any good as we’ve had 2 units personally and they both had the same problems. A quick fix would be to take a business card or folded up piece of paper and stick it in between the battery, and the battery cover, as it seems like it’s an issue with the battery and battery contacts. Sidekick Slide users, what are y’all seeing?

i decided to suck it up and buy one the first day they came out… and of course it has the problem. tmobile issued a memo to its retailers discussing the problem. the salesmen i talked to strongly urged that i return it, wait a couple months, then buy it again. what a pain. they should offer free exchanges at anytime once the ‘fixed’ ones are released.

I’m glad I stuck to my sk3 .. plus is the lx really worth $400 ? its the same shit as the sk3 just thinner & it has a bigger screen big deal .. so to all you lames that went out & bought ur new devices cause you wanted to be cool … good for you idiots !

what is your problem? i was told when i bought the damn thing that i should wait for all the bugs to be worked out. i chose not wait. i knew what i was getting into so who cares? someone gotta get stuck with the crappy ones for them to know there is a problem. it’s not about ‘being cool’ it was about ‘i wanted it so i bought it’. maybe the lx isn’t worth $400 to you but apparently others think it is. besides, the slide was pretty cheap. if the fix is as easy as ‘insert paper here’ then it’s really not that big of a deal. seriously. get over it. you didn’t buy one so this doesn’t affect you.

@ Joey who said: “This is nothing new, the sidekick 2 had the same battery issue. I had to shove a couple pieces of paper under it to keep it from disconnecting and hard resetting.” I just thought I’d add a little tidbit of information….the Sidekick 2 did not have a removable battery so please explain to me the concept of putting a piece of paper between the nonexistent battery door and the soldered on battery?

i got the Slide after i had problems with the sidekick 3 for like a day. i fell in love with the design and color, but got impatient when the activation screen hadn’t gone away for 2 days, i called customer service and they told me to press the settings and L button to speed up activation, it worked, but then the phone started to turn off every time i shut the screen, which then deleted all my contacts and messages, and when it turned back on, the activation screen showed up again. so throughout the day i have to deal with all these glitches.
i called customer service and they told me that ***whoever has the slide should return it to the retail store they bought it at and exchange it for an sidekick LX***
inconvienient much? why should i have to go back to the store? they should take care of it for us, afterall we payed THEM 400+ dollars for it

i wouldnt exactly consider it bitching, if i pay any amount of money for something i expect to recieve the best, they make customer service for a reason, they know there will be problems with the phones. also, the lx is like the sidekick 2 so i dont know how the word “perfection” is even relevant…

if not from tmobile store you have to call customer care via not your slide to do a warranty exchange. they want you to use a different phone so they can ‘trouble shoot’ which is lame because they know what the problem is, obviously.

I bought the sidekick slide in december and within the first few weeks i noticed that it kept shutting off. I thought it was just me turning my phone off accidently, but then i noticed that it would shut off on its own with being touched. By now I’m best friends with the people at T-Mobile, but they all say the same thing. “Just hard rest your phone.” I don’t think they realize that i don’t have to do it because my phone done it on its own. I’ve never been a fan of Motorola because they always made shit phone. Now i invested in a 300 dollar phone of theirs and its has a bug. You would think that they would fix the bugs before allowing the public to buy their products. I’m extremely disappointed.

Blue and brown do suck.
They should have made the LX black at least. Or a wider variety of colours.

I am an aussie and am currently on my hiptop slide wondering why it turns completely off when I slide it down to fast. Motorola should be able to fix the problem easy.
Is it really that hard?.. I’ve come accustemed to sliding slowly but try telling others not to slide fast.. They look at you weird and freak out when the phone turns off..
Get ya act together!

I paid 300 for this phone. I have the sidekick slide. It continues to often reset itself. The blue light will blink for a few seconds than all my numbers erase. I have to reset the time as well. Only good thing is i am able to import my numbers because they are saved to the sim card.

Does anyone know if T-Mobile is still honoring the upgrade to LX–or something else–for Slides that are still having these problems? Bought one for my daughter in Feb. (not knowing the history, of course!) and we can’t get rid of the Activation Screen, plus it has shut off a few times and lost her contacts. Who knows what the current policy is?
