Trouble in Moto Sidekick land

If you went out and bought yourself a brand new Motorola-manufactured Sidekick Slide, you might have noticed a problem — when you flip the screen up and down a couple times, the unit loses power — it restarts without notice. While this would be a major inconvenience just by itself, the new Sidekick Slide and Sidekick LX hard reset when the battery is pulled while the units are powered on. There lies the problem. Your unit effectively hard resets are random times. It could be in the middle of answering a phone call, sending an email or IM, or just about anything! All Sidekick data is stored on a back-end server, so if you don’t have service when that unit cuts back on, you are completely out of luck. Telstra recently launched the same device known as the hiptop slide, and our Aussie friends have alerted us to the same issue there! We love Moto’s take on the Sidekick, too. From the design, to the build quality and construction, but guys, you need to get your shizz together, ’cause this is crazy! In all fairness, we hit our Danger peeps and they are aware of the issue, so let’s see the next move that’s made. In the meantime, if your unit is experiencing these issues, it would be best to get it exchanged, though that might not do you any good as we’ve had 2 units personally and they both had the same problems. A quick fix would be to take a business card or folded up piece of paper and stick it in between the battery, and the battery cover, as it seems like it’s an issue with the battery and battery contacts. Sidekick Slide users, what are y’all seeing?

While I’m sure all retailers, at least in Australia, are happy to do a replacement within the 30 day early life failure period it is likely the replacement device will have the same issue.

I urge all users who are experiencing this issue to contact Motorola who really need to do something serious about this issue and take action.

I’m sure Motorola is already getting quite a shock from the number of replacements Telstra are doing as it is well within the 30 day early life failure warranty policy.

I picked up a slide on Saturday afternoon. I’m actuall posting from it right now. But I did notice the problem mentioned above and after losing sleep over it, I figured it was the battery connection. Took a small piece of paper and wedge it between the wall and the battery. I haven’t had any problems since. Hopefully they get some sort of permanent fix for this. Other than that, GREAT PHONE!

Tmo is slipping.. the Curve does this too. They need to perfect the product, then sell it. Don’t just put out to retail because of the holiday season.

Getting ready to ship my Slide back for a new one (and watch, it’ll happen with that one too) because of this problem. Is this NOT happening to anyone? Be sure to call T-Mobile so they become even more aware.

I hate to do this to a fellow Carlos but T-mobile is not the only 1 selling the Curve.

I work for T-Mobile, and I used the slide for a short period of time when it first launched, and had no problems with it at all. Our location hasn’t sold an abundance of the phones, but I haven’t seen one case of this yet. I hope that stays this way. The size of the device is its biggest selling point.

It’s funny, to me, how many people swear by Motorola devices, when virtually every big release seems to have some major flaw. Motorola QA is pathetic.

Thanks BGR for reporting this because my friend bought a Slide and it started to reset just in his pocket. Then I was flicking the slide shut and it died dead. I have an LX and don’t have this problem. He said it was my fault but the more we flicked it the easier it became so he took it back to the store and got another. A day later I saw his new one and flicked it shut and wham! it cut off and he said it was my fault again, so now he knows it’s not me busting his stuff!

This is nothing new, the sidekick 2 had the same battery issue. I had to shove a couple pieces of paper under it to keep it from disconnecting and hard resetting.

Okay, here’s one for the LX users out there (the author of this post included). When my LX’s screen is dimmed (AKA one minute of time has passed since I last used a button as per my settings), the screen flickers. Is this normal, or should I attempt to exchange units?

I have the Sidekick LX and it hard resets random times. Doesnt happen too often but sometimes it will just blank out with the black screen and stay frozen or it’ll reset when i’m multitasking but it never happened when I’m flipping the screen. Probably happened 6 times altogether since the 3 weeks I’ve had it.

Sooo totally unrelated but I noticed my speaker is kinda low is it suppose to be this way or not? The speaker on my sk 2 is way louder clearer and better overall. I can barely hear the phone when it rings.

Yep. This happens to my SideKick 3. Sux balls cuz I end up loosing all my txt msgs (they aren’t backed up on T-Mo’s servers). So it’s just a matter of a loose battery then? Maybe a quick How-To on fixing it is in order?

My Moto Z3 slider has the same issue. I have had a warranty claim on 2 so far for this issue. It is espically annoying because the slide motion on the Z3 is very strong to begin with. Any violent motion (the slider equivelent of slamming down the phone) would restart my phone every 20 times or so. But when it did it once it would do it over and over again until i just had to not touch it for an hour or so. The battery paper-wedge thing didnt work for me.

Hopefully they will fix this issue by the time the Macro comes out. I am itching to get T-Mobile@home.
