True AIM support coming to Gtalk?

We’ll file this one as a rumor until further confirmation, but some relatively authentic-looking screenshots seem to show an upcoming update to Google Talk that should allow users to log into their AIM accounts from within the Gtalk interface. Sounds pretty good to us. With so many chat protocols floating around, it’s always nice to see companies take a stab an interoperability. With the rising prominence of Google Talk coupled with the near ubiquity of AOL’s AIM, this would seem to be a match made in heaven. There’s no official word from either AOL or Google, but we definitely remember hearing this sort of chat merger for a while now. That, coupled with the recent spate of Gmail updates leads us to believe that this could very well be on the horizon.
