Clearwire and Sprint go their separate ways on WiMAX deal

This could mean trouble for the WiMAX network we’ve all been patiently waiting for. Sprint and Clearwire have decided to sever their relationship, dissolving a partnership that was built around the pursuit of WiMAX network infrastructure. So sad. According to the press release, the split has to do with "the complexities of the transaction and the departure last month of (Sprint CEO) Gary Forsee." It feels like there’s something missing here…perhaps Sprint’s lack of disposable income, coupled with the incredible cost of establishing a new network had something to do with it? Either way, we hope that WiMAX is able to perservere, as we could really use some 4G wireless broadband in our lives.

I read this yesterday on the WSJ. Sprint needs to take the $5 billion it was going to invest and put that into new phones and CS. Phones are majority of their business and they need to start getting better with that. CS definitely needs some work as well.

I disagree, Sprint needs to differentiate itself from AT&T and Verizon and this is the technology that will allow that. They need to push through with Wimax but also slowly work on their phone line up and customer Service.

Wow they just keep shooting themselves in the foot. Wimax was prbably the ONLY way the would get customers back or even attract new ons. Wonder if british telecom will buy them out now?
