Sprint shuts down Sprint.com for “maintenance”

We bring you this news with a mixture of confusion and hope. We’re a bit confused by Sprint’s decision to shut down all customer account access via Sprint.com until November 9th. Any attempt to login to your account yields the following message:

  • “We’re migrating your account to our new billing system. During this time, you won’t be able to sign on to sprint.com or complete transactions through Sprint Customer Care or the automated voice system. If you send an account-related email to Sprint Customer Care, we will respond after the migration is completed on November 9."

Maintenance is one thing, but 2-3 full days of system downtime is pretty ridiculous. That said, we’re still a bit hopeful. Why, might you ask? Sprint’s current billing system, at least in our experience, leaves something to be desired. Could the company maybe, possibly, moving towards a more accurate and up to date accounting infrastructure? Good Lord we hope so. Little has been revealed regarding the upcoming changes, but Sprint has stated that the new system will:

  • Receive our new, easy-to-read monthly bill
  • Get access to our redesigned account management website, where all the info and tools you need are right up front.

Nothing revolutionary there, but we’re still holding out. Let’s hope the downtime is worth the wait.

UPDATE: As some of you have noticed, this process isn’t impacting all accounts at this time. Sprint appears to be staggering the migration to minimize the inconvenience.

You’re being moved from P2K to Ensemble. It’s a complex thing that doesn’t take away from service on your actual phone but does prevent from basic maintenance being done online. After the switch there will be new options available to you due to the new billing system.

And your next bill will look completely different.

What if they had a data theft? Would this be possible?

No, they’re moving everyone from their FAST billing to the Nextel SNAP billing. Every once in awhile, I can’t activate an upgrade or help someone with their account because it’s being moved. Their service isn’t interrupted, but no changes or inquiries can be made. When the merger was done, Sprint saw how easy and great Nextel’s SNAP was, and decided to migrate everyone over.

It isn’t every account, many accounts are already done with this conversion. Yeah, it sucks for your account, because while it’s being migrated you can’t do anything, but the article’s quite a bit misleading saying that nobody can access their account. The migrations to Ensemble are happening in waves jjust so that not everybody loses access to their account in a huge chunk.

Sprint is not being entirely truthful. I just dropped a big wad of cash on a new phone, and I’m being told I can’t active it until Sunday. Nice work.

So by down for “maintenance” you mean “shutting down because it costs too much.”

    Right?

I recently ran into some trouble with Sprint and their website. I was looking to upgrade my phone to a Palm Centro. I logged in several different times, each time following the same path, but coming out with different prices, rebates, etc.

Also, the “Services” section was designed to show existing customers the “Pro” Vision Package rather than the complete set of service options. So when I logged-in, I only came upon that one option instead of the multiple options I saw when I wasn’t logged-in.

When I complained to Sprint about all the different prices and lack of service options, they were very responsive. They explained that the marketing department was looking into the services issue and were rethinking how they offer services to existing customers. They also explained that the Centro deal HAD changed more than once.

Anyways, I am thinking that they are addressing some of these different problems. I’m sure I wasn’t the only who noticed.

its about time they did something, there site was absolutly horrendous. changing plans, and adding services to your account was nearly, if not impossible. horrible to navigate, i could go on and on. hopefully they clean up the site. and thats the only complaint i have with sprint, my bill is always the same, i get service everywhere, and i especially love my “dropped call credit” every month ;)

Yes! The site has been completely unrealiable since I signed on as a Sprint customer a month ago. I have access from three different computer locations and get the same errors: Error 67, 64 and database errors. Most times, the site is either “unavailable” or it simply logs me off without a word (crashes) and puts me back at the homepage. UNBELIEVABLE from a technology based company.
