Sony gets desperate

How does 500 Euros off a new Sony LCD TV sound to you? Pretty good, right? How about 500 Euros off in addition to a brand new Blu-ray player or PS3? Yeah, we’re not kidding. Either Sony has an amazing sense of generosity given the upcoming holiday season, or somebody is getting a bit worried about their slow moving product lines. Either way, we’re not complaining, though we wouldn’t mind seeing these sort of incentives and deals over here in the US. In the interest of full disclosure, we should note that the rebate is on a bit of a sliding scale, so not all models will warrant a 500 check, but at the very least you’re looking at 250 Euros and a free PS3.
UPDATE: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. It turns out that the rebate only comes after you purchase both a Sony LCD TV and a PS3. A 250-500 Euro rebate still isn’t anything to scoff at, but it’s not quite the fire sale we initially thought
Um, I think you have to buy the TV AND the PS3 or BR player to get the rebate. The PS3 is not free.
Is it that desperate? Maybe. But at the same time, if you look at what everyone else does to push product, is it that different? $100 HD-DVD players (with 5 free movies) isn’t that different in some ways..
They do have a “FREE PS3″ promotion here in the states, when you buy a select Sony HDTV, I believe you have to use your Sony credit card, and not sure if it works when you purchase anywhere, or only Sony Style stores. LINK: http://tinyurl.com/26j9zj
Right now Bestbuy is running a special. For 2500 you get a ps3 and a 40″ xbr4 or 46″s3000. When regular price the xbr4 is really 2500. So there goes your free ps3. I cant believe BGR did not know that.
Stop complaining it’s whatever 250-500 euros in USD is so shut it and buy cause I don’t see anybody else giving away that expensive of anything.

Best Buy have been doing a “free” ps3 with Sony LCD off and on for a while. It is usually a set that could just be sold for $1600 on its own but they leave it higher and tack a PS3 on…
I don’t think Sony is in that much trouble, but only time will tell.. The once 6-to-1 Wii to PS3 ratio is back to 2-to-1.
Selling the Toshiba HDA2 for $99 … now THAT is desperate!
