British people like text messages
…to the tune of 1 billion SMS messages per week. That’s 25% more messages sent per week than the same period of time just one year ago. It also equals the total number of messages sent in England during all of 1999. My my, how times have changed. According to the BBC, there are several reasons why SMS is such a popular option for Brits, including convenience, ease of use, ubiquity, and price. We’re pretty sure that the latter is the most significant, especially given the incredibly high voice tariff’s that most European wireless customers are forced to pay. Despite its relative value when compared to voice calls, SMS messages are a notoriously profitable service for carriers, so it look like everyone wins here, right?
I live in Europe, and the last time I looked, calling was dirt-cheap.
You know, simple round-the-clock-all-you-can-eat tariffs (both calling and texting) for 25€ is not “incredibly expensive” in my eyes. Oh, and no such thing as paying for incoming stuff either for like 10 years…
So that’s not the reason…
I sent about 6000 sms a month
It’s funny that with the flip-out keyboard on that Nokia, they’re still texting with the normal keypad.
