O2 launches BlackBerry Pearl 8120
The BlackBerry Pearl 2 onslaught has begun, and we couldn’t be happier. Earlier today, European carrier O2 announced that the BlackBerry Pearl 2 / BlackBerry 8120 would be available on their network beginning immediately. The new Pearl, for those that don’t know, sports a number of worthy upgrades from its predecessor. Some of these includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack, externally accessible microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, and an improved 2 megapixel camera. We’re still waiting on an American GSM network to pick this bad boy up, but given the increasing global presence, we expect that it won’t be too long before T-Mobile or AT&T take the plunge.
That it can record video was not worth mentioning?

I’ve been contemplating whether to purchase a Pearl or not. I will hold out if this is coming in time soon to T-mobile????
Does anyone know if this one has the html email since it has Blackberry OS 4.3?
It’ll probably go something like att, tmo, sprint, verizon over the span of the next 3 years. Verizon being in 3 years.
same here I have been wanting to get a pearl but am holding out cause I want the WiFi. Imagine if your in a different country and dont have to worry about the rates….fantastic

it already came out for verizon…. the 8130.
It does not have Wifi but its the equivalent for verizon and sprint. (pearl 2 = 8130 for CDMA and 8120 for GSM)

It is actually already released on Verizon as the 8130 (CDMA version).
I guess RIM let them have it first here in the US. Sprint is next to follow suite.
Unfortunately, no word on the release of the 8120 (GSM version) in the US.

Guess your forgetting that T-Mo and At&t have had the 8100 for over a year before the cdma pearl 8130 came into existence? The 8120 is generation 2 for GSM users.
Dumb question:
Why is wi-fi an important feature?
Hasn’t BGR shown that even comparing EDGE to wi-fi, has shown that the time to load most common web pages is negligible.
I’d rather of seen an 8110 with GPS versus 8120 with wi-fi… or how about this… an 8140 with everything, and a better browser.
Very true and I’m guessing that is why they’re getting it first.
As far as wi-fi, us T-mobile folks are hoping this translates Hotspot @ Home (H@H), plus it is always a nice feature to have. But, as you mentioned I would rather see a phone that includes GPS too. I guess we can only wait and cross our fingers.
