If I were to do a wipe, you know ##and 3 numbers i would be back to square one right? I would then have the camera feature to use and have my pics and video on the BB. If i then reprovision the BB wont it delete any saved pics and so forth?

OK, I’ve searched high and low for a policy.inf or policy.bin that will unlock the Firewall setting!

The policy.bin I have has locked the Firewall to Enabled. Not that I want to change the setting, but I want to be able to!

Can someone please post what needs to be in the policy.inf file to allow changing the Firewall setting?

I’m looking for the same thing as AG… I want to install some 3rd party apps (like Google Maps Mobile, etc) then re-enable everything from BES.

Will a complete backup/restore allow me to do that? In other words, if I make a backup, then disable BES, install my apps, then perform a restore, will I keep my installed apps and still retain all of my previous BES settings? My company is being unreasonable not allowing us to install anything on these devices.

I am trying to get around the BES IT Policy to install a 3rd party application. The software on my 8830 is v4.2.2.123.

I only need to suppress the IT Policy long enough to install a 3rd party app.

I already know that for existing 3rd party apps, the IT Policy won’t remove them. It just prevents installing new ones.

Is there a way?

I apologize if I seem like an idiot, but please walk me through this.

I have a secondhand BB 8830 which was obviously previously used with Enterprise Server. I’ve tried all the wipes, and even inserted a new policy.bin, which all seemed to help a little, but I still can’t totally remove the IT policy.

This posting seems to be exactly what I need, I have already installed OS 4.3 and downloaded the JRE described above. I ran cmd.exe (as shown in the screen shot above), navigated to the directory with javaloader.exe, and tried to run “javaloader -u resettofactory”. It looks like its running, and it gives the same copyright information and the word “connected”. But then it says “Error: unknown request”.

I tried a few other commands, like dir and settime, and they work, so I am interacting with the handheld. But I don’t know what the problem is, and I don’t know what to do next.

Any ideas out there? Thanks.

That being said, you can not use this method to circumvent any BES Security and still be connected to the BES.

Worst case scenario is, if you are on a BES and you want to disable some of the imposed securities that were implemented by your IT Administrator(s), so that you can use your camera or whatever, then you would run through this method… use the camera for your needs, then connect your device back up to the BES so that you can then get your BES emails and other wireless PIM’s working again.

PS: You can NOT use this method to circumvent the company set IT Policies!!!

I have several nextel bb 7520’s i bought off of ebay that came with restrictive IT policies. I followed the insructions on blackberryforums.com with no success. ( I think i dont understand the last step of “connect the device. Verification”. Some help would be appreciated. Also, is this article, it mentions needing OS 4.2.2 to use this procudure but the newest os for the 7520 from nextel is 4.1.0.534? Am i missing something? Is the new OS available anywhere?

Anyone *should* be able to download the free Express edition of BES. At that point you could simply use a policy with no restrictions at all which would retain service books for enterprise use. We’ve had users depart our company who also took their BB with them and in the past this is how we handled it. The trick is getting the BB before they leave, otherwise it leads to a lot of frustration on their end.

This is good news for people buying BB’s from Ebay. Not so great for BES admins/companies that are worried about their BB’s walking and ending up on Ebay.

With regards to the Camera, there is no way to enabled this if it has been expressly locked down by the BES.

My BB Camera feature is currently disabled by our IT BES administrator. Is there any way to bypass that setting, and prevent BES from overriding through a subsequent policy push?

Where this should be of help to BES users is with 3rd party software installation. In my experience, there can be a loophole with IT Policies where 3rd party application installation is restricted. If a 3rd party app is installed prior to the policy being received on the device, it should work fine. What this new feature means to some of us looking to take advantage of this loophole is that I don’t need to completely wipe the firmware on my device in order to add a handful of 3rd party apps.

@Debbie, I’ve been helping with BGR since day one, although I only started writing here after I stopped writing at BBC. The decision (and difference in styles) had more to do with leisure time and availability than anything else. I had just started a new job when I first started writing here, so a lot of the time I had spent with BBC was when I was in the process of leaving my old job, moving, etc.

Like Carlos, I’m a bit new to BB in general. My company’s IT department locks down our BBs pretty tight – we can still use cameras, but many 3rd-party apps have trouble. And IT blocks a LOT of websites, including eBay, Hotmail and BGR itself.

Is there any kind of app or process that would let me continue to use BES and keep full corporate e-mail functionality while removing restrictions on the browser and 3rd-party apps?

Maybe I’m asking for the Holy Grail, or maybe not. I’m too new to know how (im)possible this is.
