Sidekick LX barely hits the streetz, and there is a new OTA coming

While it is not a full-scale roll out quite yet, there is definitely an OTA for the Sidekick LX making the rounds to a select group of users. What does it offer? Does it fix the low speaker volume issues people were reporting? Does it fix the buzz you hear when you make a call? Apparently no, this OTA contains an update for the mail application which will combine and simplify your inbox. If you’ve ever used the MySpace application, the new inbox will be a familiar experience with tabbed accounts. We haven’t checked it out just yet, but it might be safe to say the only thing getting upgraded Over-The-Air, is the email app. Shucks…

Man that kinda sux…I been goin back and forth all week over the lx or the curve and for some reason after hearing all the crappy things about the lx I still consider buying it…..

Bummer - Just got my LX blue. Screen is awsome. Speaker phone still sucks, camera is ok. Needs streaming video and full Java support. Bluetooth needs expanded features, including stereo headset. T-Mobile, please get away from EDGE! It’s old technology. The reception of the LX is much better than my SK/III. Data rates are still better than any other provider. That’s pretty much the only reason I stick with the SK anymore as much better phones are available for the same price, but have much higher data plans for the same service.

That cheap data rate is why you may never see streaming video on a sidekick. They keep it cheap by limiting what you can do with it. Theres a rumour that video capture will come via OTA in january though. Anyone know anything about that?

Ok I actually download the OTA update, its ok if you have an AOL or Yahoo! Email accounts unfortunately no g mail or hotmail can be added as a tab, I thought they would at least have that option but eh, its a start, also has anyone updated their java on their phones, im very sceptical about updating, after the myspace application ancident

when you get the update, you get an email explaining how to split your accounts into their own tabs. You don’t need a Yahoo! or AIM email account to have separate tabs.

Hopefully they unlock video streaming then this would go from a good phone to a great phone but can they really do that?unlock video over the air don’t they need to do something to the hardware?

the sidekick could have the feature on it but not functionable until the ota unlocks it because if you have someone send a video to your sidekick lx now you can hear the sound but the video is slow but it still plays my guess is that its so slow because its locked and danger couldnt fully lock it in order to still be able to unlock it with an ota

I love the phone..i totally agree the speaker should be fix…i really want the sidekick lx but because of the speaker i dont know if im getting it…i think i am but i will see how badly the speaker is because everyone is talking about that..they should try to make the sidekick better..it would be almost the coolest phone if they had everything on it

I love my LX but the things that I dislike most are the very poor quality of the earpiece and speaker volume, the low mega-pixel camera, not fully java supported, video capture not available, email retrieval is not instant but rather delayed several minutes. On a good note, I love the keyboard and hinge feature (as always) the music player is nicely setup, the menus are user friendly for the most part, display is crisp, MMS has never been easier, (however adding multiple recipients isn’t as easy as checkmarking boxes) the blue moodlights are a fantastic addition, and overall its fun factor is well above average. I would like to see the $20 data plan include ota themes that can be changed whenever u want at no extra charge. Also some faster browsing speeds. Keep improving! Id like to see the SK become ahead of the game for once. Right now it has fans who are loyal, but imagine if it directly competed with the pda’s and top phones available. A sidekick for low or high end power users. A dream come true for many busness men and women who love the simplicity of the interface and kyboard layout of the sidekick but require more in depth tools.

is there suppose to be an automatic update for the video capabilities ? as a matter of fact im writing this on my LX and its a good ass phone. good camera and everything. just need video capabilities and its the illest phone ever ! I heard the update is suppose to come up on june 29 or the 25 2008. look forward to an update [:
