Sprint set to unleash new $30 BlackBerry data plans

It looks like Sprint is getting ready to drop a new BIS add-on plan for its BlackBerry subscribers. Beginning November 4th Sprint users will be able to select a $30.00 BIS BlackBerry Power Vision package. This is one hell of a package, sporting unlimited web browsing, email, IM, Sprint on Demand access, Sprint TV, Sprint Navigation and more. It also lets you rock out with unlimited text messaging! A comparable plan from T-Mobile, the previous budget winner, would run you $34.95 including the unlimited SMS. Sounds like a steal to us. The plan does not, however, allow for tethering. That feature will run you an extra $15 a month. Even so, we think current and prospective Sprint ‘Berry customers are going to be happy today.

    I’ll take the $30 plan including tethering and skip all of this, “Sprint on Demand, unlimited text, Sprint TV, and Sprint navigation.”

    Too bad they don’t have that plan.

    T-Mobile has unlimited bis for 19.99 and you can tether with it as well, unlimited. add 14.99 for unlimited text and your only 5 dollars more than sprint AND T-Mobile doesnt make you add 2 years to your contract for adding blackberry service to your account.

    Great if their service is as good than maybe I would switch. Now what about ATT, like they have mention if Att drops price to something like this it might be worth doing a reup… Actually just a feature change. :-) no contract extension.

    That’s all nice and fine, if Sprint didn’t provide the worst customer service available.

    I’ll gladely pay a few extra bucks a month to know my cell service is taken care of by people that actually give a shit about their customers.

    I’ll stick with T-Mobile…

    Honestly I really wish at&t would work on their bis & pda plans. While it’s great having the latest blackberry phones available before anyone else it gets a bit annoying offering a $49.99 unlimited plan to a customer everytime they bring up t-mobile’s $34.99 unlimited plan. This is why people are slick & choose the $39.99 media max unlimited on their pda devices!

    Hmmmm, still not enough to make me go back to sprint. They have been a year behind in getting new BBerrys every time a new one comes out. Just look at see how long it took them to pick up the pearl. They are a lost cause.

    2 responses – First, the rumor around the farm is that the Pearl 2 will drop black Friday – day after thanksgiving for anyone unfamilar with the retail terminology.

    Second, while there is no question Sprint’s care is atrocious, they are working on it, and they do “give a shit,” it just takes time. Obviously you don’t mind waiting if you are using T-Mobz web, so give it six months if care is your biggest concern. Maybe your T-Mo phone will be able to load a website by then and you can check spelling on words like “gladly.”

    Does anyone know how to use the phone as modem without paying for tethering? If they are giving you unlimited data access with this plan there should be a work around

    Well, I can sure agree with the first part of that statement, and maybe the second part is true, but you lose me on points 3 and four.

    I am not saying any carrier has “good” customer service, but Sprint’s has been so bad for so long that it is just institutionalized in their culture.

    There may be a handful of people at corporate who do, in fact, “give a s***” but I will be amazed if they can get their in-store reps to join them in caring.

    Their service didn’t become atrocious in six months – they aren’t going to fix it in six months either.

    How often do you guys need customer service?! I’ve been a cell phone user for over 8 years now and I could probably count on one hand the amount of times I’ve needed actual customer service. And if you’re including the sales reps at stores or kiosks, I truly hope they wouldn’t interfere with your decision making when it comes to locking into a 2-yr agreement with one of the carriers. There’s enough information on the web (heck, this site alone!) that you don’t need customer service or sales reps unless it’s billing-related.

    then you don’t have Sprint if you can count on one hand how many times you’ve called CS. I’ve been with sprint since 01 and I call almost once a month if not more for a billing issue or some crap… then you get the cranky rep. its getting better, but it isnt anything close to great yet. its gonna take a long time to change things around there.

    Okay – a couple of responses:

    1) $20 bucks a month won’t break me (and the comment wasn’t directed at me), but I wouldn’t blame anyone for wanting to save a little money. I can’t imagine changing carriers to save that, but over a two year contract, 20 bucks a month adds up.

    2) Despite having numerous devices with multiple carriers, I seldom have to deal with customer service. But on the rare occasions when I have to go into a Sprint store to accomplish something, it is always a memorable experience. If your experience is different – I’m happy for you :)

    But yes, it is bad enough to make me question whether I want to make another two year commitment.

    Of course, Sprint is only the worst of a bad group. As a whole, the US cellular industry does a terrible job of customer service. And I am sure the customers they deal with every day don’t make it any easier.

    When will Sprint bring the Curve to market…I’m desperate for it and I’m about to go for the similiar world edition 88xx model…knowing my luck, it the Sprint Curve will come out the day after I make that purchase

    @dondgc – No argument here, it didn’t take 6 months to get this bad, but they have made major improvements in the last 3 months, and this is a MAJOR initiative, even during their CEO transition. Although the comments about how often you call customer care are valid, it taints the whole experience, and makes even employees embarrassed that they work there. While this is more a rant that is carrier focused, Sprint is trying to improve things, and you can’t slight them for that, especially with the attitudes of the two big dogs. Whether you care about the $20 or not, it’s a good value and there is no argument to that.
