Rogers iPhone launch date busted, for now
You know what they say…if it seems too good to be true, it probably is! And that seems to be the case with the "leaked" Rogers ad we ran showing the iPhone making its way up north to Rogers on December, 7th. Rogers spokesperson Odette Coleman has issued the following statement: "The ad in Boy Genius, Mashable, Engadget blogs was not produced by Rogers. Nothing further to announce on iPhone." Our favorite part of the article though, is this…
"So it looks like the ad was either made by a fanboy trying to milk the iPhone news here in Canada, or it was made by an advertising agency for Rogers." "Roger’s execs promised a "device" announcement in November, a December date could jive with those promises. The leaked ad sure looks real. It promises a pre-order for the phone on Roger.com on November 20, so you can buy one before Christmas and get it in January."
Oh well, there you have it! It started here, and ends here — no iPhone confirmation on Rogers, yet.

I would believe the ad more if the crown of Rogers logo was beside the text at the bottom right. Companies are extremely picky on how their logo is presented and this I’m sure is a no no for Rogers ad team. That’s not to say I don’t believe it though. However, Dec 7th seems to late for a Christmas rush. I guess we’ll see.

This is obviously a fake, the Rogers logo is not done properly and more importantly it’s way too cheap. I’ve been with Rogers for a while and I know how much they like money. Expect the iPhone (if at all) later in 2008 for $600 plus.

More news, an inside colleague of mine says that Rogers is currently at odds with apple, htc and RIM over Wi-Fi enabled devices. It seems that Rogers does not want to lose any of their hefty data fees over WLAN options and may be looking to disable some functionality.

Meh. Apple isn’t bringing the phone to Canada because they’re afraid of fighting RIM on their home turf.
The iPhone will come to Canada around the time the rest of the world are filling their landfills with them.
