Google rolling out Gmail 2.0…quietly

Much like the recently-introduced and much-beloved IMAP support for Gmail, Google is now rolling out what only rumored to be true a month ago: version 2.0. It’s a definite rollout, as not everyone has access to it yet, but it’s got a slightly new look, and many are claiming increased speeds and improved contact management. To see if you’ve got access to it, check the upper-right between "Settings" and "Help" for a new/old version toggle. So far, we don’t have it on our accounts…do you?

I have it on 1 of my 2 accounts. Contact management looks nicer but overall not seeing much difference. A couple notes.

    1. It doesn’t like that I am using Firebug extension with firefox and tells me that with instructions on how to fix .. basically turn it off.

    2. It seems slower to me. My home connection while supposedly broadband often feels slower than I like on certain sites. I can tell a difference between old and new gmail.

    any other thoughts?

With regard to BlackBerry, it polls the server (10-15 minutes) using their imap.gmail.com setup.

No thanks. Sticking with POP for pushed mail to my handheld until RIM updates their end to allow pushed IMAP.

I’ve had it since yesterday morning. The new address book is very cool and it definitely seems much faster overall. But there aren’t really any big improvements. Maybe they’re rolling out features, too…

I’m with Eric - what’s the point in pushing out version two when they’ve never got it past the Beta stage?
POP support is a joke, why don’t they fix that before trying something else?

It’s great that they’re pushing it forward and all but it’d be nice if they fixed the pre-existing problems first.

I have it on one of three accounts. It is without a doubt faster. Didn’t check out any other bells, whistles or easter eggs, though.

I wonder if I can get version 2.0 past my company’s anti-everything-that-is-not-Lotus-Notes filter?

Had it for about 2 weeks or so. Not noticing too much of a difference so far but the IMAP feature is amazing! The contact manager is interesting but it seems sluggish.

    It says right here:

The new look has been made available to about 1% of all Gmail users and is being rolled out to the rest on an ongoing basis.
