FCC expected to put the kibosh on cable-exclusive apartment deals

Renting an apartment with one of those "you have to have this kind of cable or else" policies? Good news! The FCC thinks that’s as stupid as you do. Expected to happen Wednesday, look for a vote that offers fair competition, including that of telecom providers AT&T and Verizon, for your hard-earned TV dollars. This is obviously a pretty significant coup, as it should drive options up, and costs to the consumer down. Of course, cable companies will probably appeal any ruling that comes down, but it still looks like, in the end, that this will be nothing but a benefit to the consumer.

I thought BGR posts exclusive or up to date news? These few news were already broadcasted a couple of days ago on TV.

limiting the rights of property owners is a bad idea. if you dont like the service available, then you should move. this is a little thing called the free-market.

Jeff B. you could have had AT&T if they offer service to you – you didn’t exercise your existing rights. What this ruling does is prevent exclusive ACCESS agreements between property owners and carriers. Exclusive USE agreements are still possible depending on the MDU type in question.
