FCC expected to put the kibosh on cable-exclusive apartment deals
Renting an apartment with one of those "you have to have this kind of cable or else" policies? Good news! The FCC thinks that’s as stupid as you do. Expected to happen Wednesday, look for a vote that offers fair competition, including that of telecom providers AT&T and Verizon, for your hard-earned TV dollars. This is obviously a pretty significant coup, as it should drive options up, and costs to the consumer down. Of course, cable companies will probably appeal any ruling that comes down, but it still looks like, in the end, that this will be nothing but a benefit to the consumer.

THANK THE LORD!!!!!! I hate Time Warner so much here in NYC i settled for RCN. To my surprise, RCN isn’t so bad after all!! Oh yea, 1st!
I thought BGR posts exclusive or up to date news? These few news were already broadcasted a couple of days ago on TV.
limiting the rights of property owners is a bad idea. if you dont like the service available, then you should move. this is a little thing called the free-market.
Its about friggin’ time. I just wish that it came a few years ago when this directly affected me.
this doesn’t make sense at all… shouldn’t I be the one getting screwed by the FCC?
YES!! FUCK YOU COMCAST I’M GETTING AT&T!!!!!!!
Yea I know att takes a lot of my money for the cell bill anyways but they’ve got to be better than the ditzes and bimbo’s at comcast.
Jeff B. you could have had AT&T if they offer service to you – you didn’t exercise your existing rights. What this ruling does is prevent exclusive ACCESS agreements between property owners and carriers. Exclusive USE agreements are still possible depending on the MDU type in question.
Ok telcos compeingw with cable we alredy have that here it’s called qworst comunications an they cost more than cox an give you the run around all they can do is hook you up with a satilite dish that cost more than cable. I don’t even wanth to think of att or whorizen getting involved.
So when will this actually take affect? I’m in an apartment building that locks me into one cable company and I hate it!
