Apple iPhone launching on Rogers December 7th?
If this leaked shot of a Roger’s ad turns out to be legit, we shall see the iPhone hit Canada on December, 7th. It should sell for $499CAD on a 3-year contract, and we’re guessing it will be the 8GB model. We were told that since there is this little trademark dispute over the iPhone name in Canada, this might not be a final image, but it does look pretty polished. It also appears pre-orders will start November the 20th, but again, huge unconfirmed bit here, so take it as you will…
This advertisement is clearly a fake, Rogers and Rogers Wireless in particular are extremely anal about their advertisement styles. This contradicts everything they have done before. I work for a Rogers dealer, and the Q4 Launch Party is near, this is where they reveal their Q4 Lineups, and something tells me the iPhone will not be joining the party.
The thing is that Rogers will NOT be at liberty to set prices on the iPhone. No other carrier in the world is, and Ted Rogers does not have any special dirty pictures of Steve Jobs and a goat.
So Steve Jobs will set the price, and that means it will be around $399 a month with a data plan that’s similar to what the US and Europe are seeing. Apple has to be a consistent brand, after all.
Jobs isn’t going to stay up nights worrying about 100 000 units he could have sold into Canada, so he will hold out until Rogers agrees to his pricing.
So the price gives it away. It’s wishful thinking; sorry folks. Props to the kid who mocked it up (one-handed I’m sure) — it’s generated HYPE and brought the issue up one more time. Whither the REAL Canadian iPhone?
Meh… I’ve been using my unlocked 8GB iPhone on the Rogers network for over a month now. Who cares about Rogers’ offer; they can keep it.

Agreed that the Apple© is a giveaway. Plus, the font is just “not Apple”. Also, most Apple ads have plenty of white space and most graphic designers wouldn’t stuff the iPhone in the upper left-hand corner.
Either way, I’m fist in line to pick up an iPhone when they do arrive in Canada.

As a graphic designer at Rogers I would just like to confirm that this is indeed fake.
How about that 99* beside the 499! Surely it ought to be the same font as the numbers beside it.
I’d agree that this execution is a fake. Green font on a Rogers print ad? Not going to happen.
Meh, I call BS too, but I really don’t care about the iPhone, I see one benefit for the iPhone being launched on Rogers and thats the fact they will need to create a data plan to accomodate, and if thats the case they may be forced to revamp their BB Data Plan with more MB for our money.
why does anyone care anymore? Im going to say the majority of people who will pay 399 or 499 for an iPhone in canada have already driven the 2 hours or so to the states and bought one or got one online somehow (which is what i did). Rogers had the iPhone a couple months ago when the Dev team released the unlock. hackingt0sh.org

If only this had 3G (HSDPA), we could get 1 GB for $65/month from Rogers. Something like that using EDGE is $420/month
I have my doubts about this.
First, the small green text is in a horrible font. In a CTA subhead like that, most ad people will avoid (C) and TM symbols unless absolutely necessary. The ones in this ad really stick out.
Second, the last line of the small print says you don’t find out what the data plan will cost until later. I somehow doubt Rogers is stupid enough to sell an expensive phone (with a mandatory three-year term) without disclosing how much the data would cost.
Finally, I’ve never known Rogers to split up its logo like that (red circle and text). It’s generally considered to be a no-no in advertising practice.
This just looks like a fake Photoshop mockup to me. I stand by my original post on this.
That said, I HOPE it’s true, because I really want to move out of 1.0.2 without bricking my phone.

HEH. i call shens as well for the same reasons. the logo has NEVER been split up that i have seen in 4 years or being a customer or so. I can’t see them wanting 500 for the phone on a 3 yr plan, even if it were true. Yes, rogers are horrible for pricing, but asking OVER mrsp on a phone WITH a 3yr contract? I don’t even see them being that crazy. It does, however, seem weird how the molson, i think it was, add appeared the other day (leaked, fake?) with a content as an iPhone as one of the prizes, mentioning av. on rogers starting sometime in jan…

For those with an iphone on rogers, could you give me a rough estimate of your monthly usage, i have mine unlocked on tmobile (i’m in the states every other month for a month) and i pull a bunch with regular use.. worried my rogers bill would end up at about 250/mo with it >.
yup just buy a regulay iphone and get an unlocker on ebay,, it will do the same thning.

Obviously fake. I mean, I don’t know how they do it Canada, but I sincerely doubt they use © (copyright) to mean the same thing as ® (registered trademark), as in Apple® iPhone™ rather than Apple© iPhone™.

This add is fake. The Rogers logo is incorrect. Also their is a trademark dispute with “iPhone” in Canada…Comwave owns the iphone trademark in Canada.
Personally I’d prefer Apple go with a carrier that actually has decent coverage out here on the east coast. Rogers doesn’t.
Maybe it’s possible that the iPhone won’t be exclusive to one carrier like it is in the US?

If you want the iphone so bad you can get one TODAY on ebay or other classified sites.
We should be more concerned if Rogers is actually going to offer that unlimited data plan now that would be news.
