Apple iPhone launching on Rogers December 7th?

If this leaked shot of a Roger’s ad turns out to be legit, we shall see the iPhone hit Canada on December, 7th. It should sell for $499CAD on a 3-year contract, and we’re guessing it will be the 8GB model. We were told that since there is this little trademark dispute over the iPhone name in Canada, this might not be a final image, but it does look pretty polished. It also appears pre-orders will start November the 20th, but again, huge unconfirmed bit here, so take it as you will…

BG, what do you mean by “…little trademark dispute over the iPhone name in Canada.”?

Looks chopped if you ask me. The reason is that the Rogers logo ain’t like that. The Mobius loop thing (upper right corner) and the “Rogers” text are usually side-by-side, and the “Rogers” text looks like it has too much drop shadow compared to all the mail I get from Rogers. :p Also, the price is too high, given the above-parity-ness of the loonie.

Take it with a grain of salt, I say.

Why would it be $499? Wouldn’t it be about the same as here? After all, the Canadian dollar is worth more than our dollar these days…

Even if it is true what about the Data Plan??? People will always pay for a good phone, its the Plan thats going to decide if people buy it or not. No one wants a 500.00 dollar phone if you still have to pay those high data rates

I read Rogers was getting a unlimited data plan.

IT would be needed for iphone as it uses a ton of data.

Looks fake to me. But if it were real, I assume the $499 would be the 3-year price, considering the rumours about it being a whopping $800 without contract.

Why? Cuz we’re in Canada. You can buy a 26″ LCD TV for $599 here, while get the exact same model for $399 in the US.

Sad truth! Good thing I’m not interested in an iPhone with its plodding EDGE speeds. Rogers/Fido is releasing all sorts of new 3G handsets in November and that’s where my money is going!

Wow I dont know about you guys but the whole 3 yr contract is a long time. I had a hard time signing a 2 yr, dont know how you guys would do a 3 yr. Just seems like forever, especially when you think about it in 2 yrs (maybe sooner) we’ll see the next generation iphone.

Don’t know but it sounds that $499 for a 3 year plan is bullshit?
I mean we get some unknown price for a 2 year contract.

499 seems right for rogers, their prices are always way higher. Even the curve is about 200 more here even though its made here. Its cheaper to just buy it unlocked from US and you don’t have to sign a 3 year contract.

The term IPHONE has been used by a company called Comwave. That’s the trademark dispute

    definately fake.

The iPhone isn’t even on Rogers’ roadmap right now because Apple isn’t even talking about bringing the iPhone to Canada until it successfully launches in Europe.

The fonts are not fonts that Rogers has ever used, and the legal copy at the bottom of the ad is not proper. No where does it talk about the mobius being a trademark of Rogers Communications Inc, nor does it talk about Apple’s trademarks.

Chalk it up to a photoshop job.

So many terrible design flaws on this ad. It’s definitely a fake.

For example, Rogers never uses the term “3 year”, they always say “36 month” when speaking of a 3 year term. Also, the Mobius design (the little circle logo in the top right corner) should be beside the Rogers logo in the bottom right corner. And Rogers tag line for Q4 is “Shine”. The LG Shine is their main phone this season. Why would a company have such a major release on Dec 7th. 1 month into their Q4.
Who ever made this needs some Photoshop lessons, and obviously has no experience with how Rogers runs.

Your friend is lying. I am a Rogers rep, and theres no solid word on it yet. No one in Rogers except the category managers (who decide which phones to purchase for Rogers) has used an iPhone for professional reasons.

I have few words for you…

P.H.O.T.O.S.H.O.P. This add is not professional enough to come out of Rogers Marketing Team let me tell you. A drop shadow under the Logo? Missing the required space arround the Logo? The Rogers Circle on top and not beside the Logo?

Ok Ok we all want the iPhone up here in Canada… Stop send crappy stuff to put your name on the web.

I’m calling bullshit. Whether or not the iPhone is coming to Canada, I don’t know. But I can tell you that I used to work at Rogers, and whatever jerk doctored this photo got a little bit too over-eager. You see, Rogers is EXTREMELLY anal about their logo, and splitting up the “convergence loop” and the Rogers text is strictly forbidden.

If this guy had not gone overboard and left the logo alone, I’d be sold on it. But I can tell you first hand that this ad would never be created by Rogers.

I will wait until the end of November to see if it is actually true. If not I am getting the new Nokia N95 (8GB). Plus I read somewhere that they are making an unlimited data plan, I am calling that BS. Rogers wants to milk every customer. The cheapest thing on the 3G is 1GB for 65$/month but you need a laptop card, I just hope I can get around that and use any 3G phone to get the signal.

Duh, bad fake. The dead giveaway is the “Apple©” in the fifth line of copy. Apple is a registered trademark and should have a ®. Copyrights (©) are for intellectual or creative works.

Copywriters know this. The sad person who mocked up this little ad apparently doesn’t.
