Samsung F700 comes knockin’?

Good lord we hope this one is true. Word on the street is that the Samsung F700, aka the Samsung Croix, will be coming to the US. The rumor places the phone in the loving hands of Verizon, but there’s no word on just when or how that might happen. The Croix is one heck of a phone, sporting a 3 megapixel camera, gorgeous screen, and HTC-style sliding QWERTY keyboard. But we all know how Samsung gets down with the keyboards, so watch out. The current GSM/HSDPA combo would obviously be replaced by a CDMA/EV-DO Rev. A chipset, but all other relevant details would remain the same. As always, we’ll wait until the writing is on the wall before declaring victory, but we’d be pretty happy if this panned out.

Wow! If the possible Verizon rumor is true then that would make so many PDA fans happy. i760 who? XV6800 who?

I also hate to feed the fire, but I remeber hearing way back that THIS is the phone that had the UI to rival the iPhone.. any idea about that?

    3mp!

GSMArena.com used to say it was a 5mp camera! But they changed it!

    NO!

    Anyone know why?

    Noooooooooooooooo!

This phone would be perfect for Helio. It’s the logical Ocean successor, and we all know how much Helio loves Samsung (and especially Samsung’s Ultra series).

If BGR was confirming this, then I’d buy it, but it seems like everyone is just quoting the same CrunchGear story on this one. It just doesn’t make sense to me - the F700 is redundant next to the Voyager. (It’s actually better than the Voyager, which would seem to put a cloud on the inevitable massive VZW/LG Voyager marketing campaign.) Plus, CrunchGear is reporting that we’ll see it this year - so, um, why the hell hasn’t anyone else heard about it? Wouldn’t Verizon feature it front and center in its “NextPhonesNow” campaign if it was that…close?

I’m not doubting CrunchGear might have caught wind of a CDMA version of the F700, but I’m hoping that it’s going to Helio as the Ocean follow-up (due early next year). And I’m hoping Helio and Samsung “port” it with the same care they applied to the U600 -> Mysto conversion (I’m amazed that such a thin, 2G GSM phone could switch to 3G CDMA and not gain any thickness).

I have it heard it straight from Samsung that this device (or one nearly identical to it) is going to be launching on T-Mo next year as part of their 3G line up. If they hold true to their word, I can’t wait!

I got to play with the Vodafone version of the F700 running on AT&T’s network in San Francisco - at a CTIA meeting with Samsung execs this past week. Here’s some video:

    http://www.phonedog.com/cell-phone-research/ctia-2007-san-fran/noah-gets-his-hands-on-the-samsung-f700-at-ctia-07-sf.aspx

I got the distinct impression that the F700 is coming to the US, and relatively soon. Also, when I asked about the camera having gone from 5mp to 3mp, they said that was a Vodafone configuration. Doesn’t mean anything, necessarily, but leaves a little hope open.

I love Mog’s idea of Helio picking it up. I honestly think it’s a little too big for Helio - Ocean’s thick but it’s pretty pocketable. The F700 is thin, but fairly large. Still, it’s a very interesting idea. The Mysto, btw, is going to be sweet if you like sliders.

I have heard that CDMA phones (Verizon in particular) drop the MP’s on their cameras. The upcoming U900 is an example. Sounds like a promising tidbit to me.

I love this phone, but it really doesn’t make sense for Verizon, with Voyager around the corner. It does make sense for Sprint maybe if there is going to be a port to a CDMA phone. Even though they are getting the Touch, I don’t think this phone would directly compete with it because of Touch running WimMo. Hell maybe eben Alltel if they are doing as well as reported. But what the hell do I know.

Yeah i dont get verizon getting this phone either. i’d be great but why wouldn’t they release anything about it and hype up the voyager. unless they are going to market it to more of a pda user or something. maybe if it was too expensive for a common costumer or it like ran windows or w/e. i wouldn;t bet my bottom dollar on it till more info comes out.

leave it to the US to DOWNGRADE the camera on this beautiful masterpiece. maybe if americans weren’t so DAMN CHEAP in purchasing new phones, we would be just as happy as the europeans across the pond with their brilliant technological advances **sigh** one dares to DREAM.

Well isn’t At&t about to pick up the Prada, which gives them a direct competitor to the iPhone?

I think the F700 is more of a media-phone for the older group like the iPhone whereas the voyager would be marketed to the younger crowd.

    Just my two cents.

obviously you know dont anything about cameras. A 3mp camera can produce equal image quality (if not better because there are less pixels crammed onto the sensor) to that of a 5mp, the only difference being in size. anyway, really hopes this comes to verizon, id definitely get it.

Do me a favor and take a look at the phones being released by GSM and CDMA carriers and you’ll see that they lower the MP’s on them.

Maybe if you understood what I was saying then you would have to try and make yourself look smart?

    @ The Teve,

“…CDMA phones (Verizon in particular) drop the MP’s on their cameras. The upcoming U900 is an example…”

Both the U900 and A990 have 3.2mp cameras.

The U900 says 3.0 on the outside but its full resolution is 3.2 [2048x1536].

The Samsung D900/D900i does this too.

    As the Nokia N80.

All SAY 3.0mp, but are really 3.2mp.

    @ The Teve,

    I have no idea.

Maybe bceause 3 is easier and faster to say than 3.2.

Maybe because the .2 doesn’t mae too much of a difference.

Maybe because the manufacturers are stupid.
