AT&T BlackJack II first look

Anyone fiending for a look at the new BlackJack 2 from Samsung is in for a bit of a treat. We’ve stumbled across a bit of video from the CTIA Wireless Conference currently underway in San Francisco. While by no means an extensive review, the clip gives a pretty good overview of the handset, and places it in direct comparison with the current BlackJack. The new model is considerably larger, but looks a bit sleeker. The biggest drawback, at least from where we’re standing, is that the new handset sports the keyboard as its predecessor. Not tight. Either way, check the video for further viewing pleasure.

Thanks, Noah!

While the keyboard is the same the number pad is actually better. They placed the numbers closer as they should have done in the previous model.

The keyboard actually looks like it’s bigger and better than the other one and c’mon any improvement is good over the last keyboard.

After watching the video, that thing looks so much nicer than my BJ1. Maybe I’ll get one of those also and be able to sport to brand new phones and then my Tilt won’t have to do all the work.

Is that a swivle directional pad?

I’m not liking the thickness (hopfully they’ll slim it down a bit), but I’m liking the wine red and the extended battery.

The keypad looks improved, but I’d have to try it to honestly see if I like it. I never did like the BlackJack keyboard.

I guess I’ll have to decide…BlackJack 2 or Moto Q9. Right now, I still want my Moto, but that could change.

Yeah, JJDon. It is a swivel direction pad. You can tap the direction like a button and like the first Blackjack, but the wheel can also spin.

Re: thickness — You can only go so thin. One of the big improvements with the BJ2 is the included extended battery without sacrificing any size. With the BJ1 the extended battery bulked it up quite a bit, but Samsung was able to cram that battery into this cellphone and still maintaining the thin size.

And contrary to what Josh says, it is actually not bigger than the BJ1. It is a smidgen wider (think millimeters), and the same thickness (while now including the extended battery by default, as mentioned previously).

I’m the guy who made the video … The 2 feels much nicer and sleeker in the hand than the 1, at least to me. It’s really not all that thick, and as has been said, you won’t need to bulk it up wit h the extended life battery cover that folks use with the 1. FWIW, I think Samsung did a nice job on the redesign. Keyboard’s better, too.
