Circular display on its way

Can you imagine a car display that sports miniature TFT screens instead of a traditional dial cluster? That day may not be so far away, friends. Toshiba has just unveiled a set of circular TFT displays that are pretty close to being ready for prime time. The little 62mm diameter buggers are pretty powerful, sporting a contrast ratio of 600:1, and resolution of 240 x 240. It’s no Sharp Aquos, but for its intended purpose it should be more than suitable. The displays will be prominently featured at the upcoming Yokohama auto exhibition on October 24th, and we wouldn’t be too surprised if a high end auto manufacturer or two decided to integrate these into their upcoming product lines.

Way cool! As long as they don’t start using Windows as well, last thing i need is the “Blue Screen of Death” across my dash while driving down the free way. Almost makes me miss the days of hand cranked windows and windshield wipers.
