Alltel does a bang up job, announces record profits
Who knew? Alltel, the little cell company with more "heart" than actual customers has posted its quarterly profit report. Lo and behold, things seem to be looking quite rosy. The company announced a 51% increase in profits! This increase is due in large part to the more than 200,000 new customers that the company has added over the last quarter. This spits squarely in the face of many analysts who predicted that Alltel would only net between 112,000 and 195,000 new suckers. Take that, analysts. Consequently, the company’s stock is surging. Nothing like bucking miserably low expectations to impress the masses…If only Fred Thompson would take a page out of Alltel’s playbook. What does the future hold for them? Well, the stock surge is of little consequence, as the company was recently purchased by a group of private investors, but we’d certainly welcome a competent challenger to the current "Big 4".

Alltel is one of the best managed wireless companies out there. They focus on what is importent and execute very well. I wish they would buy out Sprint-Nextel and really give Verizon some competition.

I would suspect that purchase would make little sense. Sprint is bleeding customers and has lowered its credit standards so far the business model is only going to get worse.
US Cellular would be a much better target, but the TDS brothers will never sell as long as they are breathing.

Somebody on CDMA who could compete against Verizon in terms of reception means that I would drop Big Red like an empty hamburger wrapper.
Alltel seems to have a decent track record of getting a lot of the phones that Verizon gets, only without the whole “remove all the features that people like the most” part that Verizon enjoys.
So please, Alltel. Get bigger. Challenge Verizon for CDMA comparison. I’m waiting for you.

i think it is just sick that they need all that $$$. america is heading for a recession and i’m paying $80 a month for a plan that probably only costs $15 a month to operate. that would be why my service is getting shut off today. been giving up my measly paycheck for 15 years not doing it no more. shove it up your ass alltel, verizon, sprint ect..
