T-Mobile worked closely with HTC to develop this phone and the designers really liked the SureType from the Blackberry Pearl. The keypad layout was actually licensed from Blackberry so that there wouldn’t be any issues down the road! Smart

most of the people trash talking have never used the phone.

the phone, is LIGHT, its small, it plays VIDEO/Music, contacts sync with t-mobile.com automatically, the battery does SUCK, but thats the only real downside.

if it had a 400mhz processor, the battery would die twice as fast 20 min or so

I got the phone, a couple of days ago and i love it, the wifi is a great.–

—you have wifi, blue tooth, beam data transfer, listening to music and browsing the internet, WHILE TALKING , whats so bad about that ??

– ALSO, the keyboard knows which letter you are trying to type automattically so you dont have to press a key more than 1 time to get the correct letter.

–it also support SDHC cards, i use a 4gb sd hc card, but it works with even HIGHER MEMORY CARDS,

got the phone on friday last week I love this phone, internet is very fast much better then the dash the sure type is very easy to use although some words can be a bit of a pain very light weight screen is very amazing really clear and bright the new UI is the best part of all the most important features can be pulled up from the home screen battery life could be a little bit better but otherwise is not that bad it is a very good phone with alot of features I would recommend this phone over the wing the guts of the phones are pretty much the same as the wing except for the touch screen and full qwert keyboard they use the same TI proccesor the shadow is a better built phone why pay extra call quality was very good as well as reception this is the best phone in my opinion t-mobile has that gives you this much, what are you waiting for get one .

hey guys… i just got the phone today. i went from a sidekick to this new shadow thing. so far its been great. kind of complicated compared to the sidekick. but i am debating… should i go back and just get the blackberry…. or should i keep this one??? WHICH ONE IS BETTER??? SHADOW OR BLACKBERRY. please someone help me out i have 14 days to exchange

What do you mean it is a brick. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is small and light with sliding keyboard. I probably bought one of the first one sold on Halloween. I love this phone. It does everything any phone or smartphonebetter, and it is very easy to use. You just have to get use to the keyboard. It is idential to Blackberry Pearl. The smartphone looks and feel wonderful. Love this smartphone.

The phone is a 5.2 oz brick. I used one today at the Tmobile store, they have one on display, but not yet for sale. It’s heavy and bulky. I’ll keep my pearl.

so what i can’t figure out is why they can’t just throw on the @home and 400mHz and 3G and everything else that would make this an awesome contribution to the cellular world of tmobile .. shadow2? you mean we have to chance purchasing this one cheap only to have a better model released in three months? if this thing had everything included i’d be more willing to pay a higher price .. $599 anyone?

Blackberry doesn’t have anything like that exclusively. Heck the Samsung blast already makes use of sure type.

saw the sage green in person and it looks clean. def not feminin looking at all and the interface, like someone said, on this phone is amazing; the circle scrolling pad is great. doesn’t even look like a windows mobile phone at all. best of all, it doesn’t freeze up!!! searching through crap is crazy fast. it has Live Search which acts as the GPS and gives you turn by turn directions and satellite images. you can even find restaurants and movies and whole lot of other crap! the windows media player on it is awesome. there was “office space” , the movie, on the phone and the video quality is pretty good. in the end, i just wanted to steal the phone because it looked so HOT! (no, i’m not paris hilton) i can’t wait for the Shadow 2. i’m sure it’ll def have HotSpot@Home/UMA and it’ll def have t-mobiles 3G network.

you are absolutely right! the samsung blast does have this keyboard. also i didn’t see any mention of bluetooth for this phone… could this really be the case?? what about GPS?? also the posting from engadget mentioned VGA screen.

The screen is 2.6″ last i checked, interface is very cool. I know people are scared of the suretype keypad, but I love it. With my pearl I still can type much faster than with my curve, they was I look at it is I only have to be half as accurate when pressing keys, and the predictive text takes care of the rest.

After seeing this phone daily in person, a few thoughts… The screen despite being QVGA is extremely sharp and clear, it may not be the biggest but i think its the best screen tmobile has offered to date. The sage green isn’t that bad color wise either. Regarding UMA, that is an HTC/Microsoft thing and like it was said above there are some software issues to be worked out. The interface is slick and makes the phone feel like its not a WM phone but a normal device with a lot of features. This could be very big for tmobile.

Huge disappointment. I really expected UMA on this phone out of the box. No wonder why it’s going to be relatively affordable.

I don’t expect any UMA update to grace this phone, but at least there’s a glimmer of hope.

Apparently there will be a uma update to the phone early next year, microsoft just doesnt have the bugs worked out yet. As far as the suretype, whatever licenses needed have been acquired, HTC has even put the keypad on the Touch Dual.
