T-Mobile Shadow update

We just got a little update for all you out there waiting on the upcoming T-Mobile Shadow. Here’s what we heard…The T-Mobile Shadow is actually going to be a brand, just like how T-Mobile has the Sidekick brand. There will be a Shadow II, possibly even LEs. The device is marketed to twenty-somethings who might have outgrown the Sidekick, but still want to stay connected and in touch. It’s called "The Official Phone of Fun." The actual launch for it will take place on October 31st, and it should retail for $149 after a $50 mail-in rebate after a two-year agreement. Awesome pricing! T-Mobile has been in a tizzy lately with new data plans, so why should this be any different? They’re on track to launch a $9.99 unlimited email plan, just like the BlackBerry, but for the Shadow. We heard the plan will actually launch about a week before the device does. On the tech side: Windows Mobile 6 Standard with an "exclusive" interface that takes advantage of the scroll wheel / d-pad, Wi-Fi, yet no UMA support, a 2 megapixel camera with no flash, and a spring-assisted slider like the T-Mobile Wing. Inside the device, we’re looking at a TI OMAP 850 201MHz processor, 128MB RAM, 256MB Flash, a 240×320 screen, and a 20-key keypad that uses predictive text. Colors we reported we also on track, with Brown and Sage Green gracing the color spectrum here. We were told the Sage Green looks a little feminine, so watch those colors when you’re picking up your brand new T-Mobile Shadow, fellas.

A blackberry-style SureType keyboard? I thought RIM were the exclusive licensees of this technology. I see a lawsuit coming…

Apparently there will be a uma update to the phone early next year, microsoft just doesnt have the bugs worked out yet. As far as the suretype, whatever licenses needed have been acquired, HTC has even put the keypad on the Touch Dual.

@ tacomaster I thought UMA was hardware (like a chip) that works with WIFI….

Huge disappointment. I really expected UMA on this phone out of the box. No wonder why it’s going to be relatively affordable.

I don’t expect any UMA update to grace this phone, but at least there’s a glimmer of hope.

Wasnt this supposed to have the “biggest and best screen of any t-mobile phone ever”?

    QVGA is kinda weak.

To launch a WiFi phone w/o the HotSpot@Home service is worrying me.. Is it just me or are the Windows Mobile phones being restricted from having H@H capabilities?

After seeing this phone daily in person, a few thoughts… The screen despite being QVGA is extremely sharp and clear, it may not be the biggest but i think its the best screen tmobile has offered to date. The sage green isn’t that bad color wise either. Regarding UMA, that is an HTC/Microsoft thing and like it was said above there are some software issues to be worked out. The interface is slick and makes the phone feel like its not a WM phone but a normal device with a lot of features. This could be very big for tmobile.

The screen is 2.6″ last i checked, interface is very cool. I know people are scared of the suretype keypad, but I love it. With my pearl I still can type much faster than with my curve, they was I look at it is I only have to be half as accurate when pressing keys, and the predictive text takes care of the rest.

saw the sage green in person and it looks clean. def not feminin looking at all and the interface, like someone said, on this phone is amazing; the circle scrolling pad is great. doesn’t even look like a windows mobile phone at all. best of all, it doesn’t freeze up!!! searching through crap is crazy fast. it has Live Search which acts as the GPS and gives you turn by turn directions and satellite images. you can even find restaurants and movies and whole lot of other crap! the windows media player on it is awesome. there was “office space” , the movie, on the phone and the video quality is pretty good. in the end, i just wanted to steal the phone because it looked so HOT! (no, i’m not paris hilton) i can’t wait for the Shadow 2. i’m sure it’ll def have HotSpot@Home/UMA and it’ll def have t-mobiles 3G network.

    Wishful Thinking says:

so what i can’t figure out is why they can’t just throw on the @home and 400mHz and 3G and everything else that would make this an awesome contribution to the cellular world of tmobile .. shadow2? you mean we have to chance purchasing this one cheap only to have a better model released in three months? if this thing had everything included i’d be more willing to pay a higher price .. $599 anyone?

The phone is a 5.2 oz brick. I used one today at the Tmobile store, they have one on display, but not yet for sale. It’s heavy and bulky. I’ll keep my pearl.
