Apple opens iPhone to 3rd party applications with an official SDK

We can’t believe it either — Apple is finally letting us in on their secret iPhone sauce! They’re still figuring out how to actually go about this, since mobile threats like viruses, malware, and other nasty things might target the iPhone. Steve Jobs actually drops a Nokia compliment, saying how their digitally signed 3rd party apps make it easy to protect end-users from these types of attacks since the developers have a proven track record. Yes the SDK will also work for the iPod Touch. We’re looking at February here, so let’s get to building that time machine!

I’ll have to give Apple credit here. When they figured out there were two major problems with their business model, (price point and locked down os) they adjusted without even blinking an eye.

I’ll be interested to see just how many API’s Apple will open up to developers.
