Porn spammers going to jail

Time and time again, anyone can open their e-mail box and click over to their Spam folder to find every possible kind of entertainment filth imaginable. No one knows who this crap even comes from, much less why you’re getting it. Well…law enforcement has, and it means jail time for two now-felons. Jeffrey Kilbride and James Schaffer were each sentenced to over 5 years in federal prison for porn-spamming people in the past few years. That practice yielded them over $2 million since 2003, of which $1.1 million was forfeited to the court, along with $100k in fines apiece, and $77,500 paid to AOL for harrassing its customers. To make matters worse, Kilbride went so far as to prevent a witness from testifying. These guys sure sound like real winners. At least our Spam filters can rest easy keep working as hard as ever.

That mailbox has to win some kind of award for largest spam collection. I have seen my junk address grow to almost 1 million and I thought that was some sort of accomplishment, but 18 million… I stand in awe Mr. Kling!

BTW I think Wackovia needs you to verify your account information one more time :P

That’s got to be a Photoshop job. There’s no way anyone could have that much spam. I typically get 3 to 6 a day.

2M for spamming….5 years in prison for spamming…not quite worth it

Then again, if they can hook the prisoners up with some porn they may be able to save their own @$$es….literally

On a more serious note this type of thinking is why prison is used in this country to punish anything. To even intimate that you think that two spammers being raped in prison is an adequate punishment, is frightening and telling. 5 years is a long time for clogging up peoples inboxes. Meanwhile people with money and political connections do no time for crimes they commit which do more than inconvenience your internet surfing.

There is a better way to handle spam than throwing these people into American prisons. Fines, penalties, community service, etc, should be the first way to handle people like this. There was a time when prison was reserved for only violent people who couldnt be trusted to control themselves in society. Now virtually any infraction can get you in the slammer. American prisons are serious places and should be reserved for serious crimes/criminals.
