Motorola is frustrating because they are so hit miss. All of their phones are awesome in some ways but frustrate the hell out of you in other ways. And they are so close!
1 – REDUCE PRICES. samsung is killing you by cloning you with cheap phones(albeit breakable phones, but who can afford the top end ones?)
2 – MIX WHAT YOU HAVE. I LOVE the crystal talk earpiece on the V9…best i’ve ever used. Love the speakerphone on the q9h. Camera is being upgraded…great. So use these two speakers, combine them into a slightly smaller Razr2 like phone that comes in a color other than purple, make a Q that doesnt look like a 80’s calculator, and a slider for the slider lovers. I love the Q, it’s my favorite phone so far, but it looks like I’m holding a TI 86 up to my ear.
Blackberry bold will be here soon. I am loyal to motorola, but the bold is promising. PLEASE pay attention.

3 – Get rid of that F’ing moto interface on the V3’s and V9. I had a V9, GREAT PHONE, but it looked like I was using windows 3.1. UGLY! Motomagx I think it was called(Linux) looked promising…why abondon it? And please, PLEASE, forget windows mobile. It may be easier on you to spit out, but windows mobile sucks.

Does that mean Moto will no longer support linux or its MOTOMAGX?

I was expecting more software update from Moto with the use of Linux.

There are still many things they could work on with Razr v8.

I can do you one better. My old v180 busted both LCDs, my mom’s v180 died, my replacement v220 I got was waterdamaged (cingular’s fault), but it eventually died, then my mother had a v551 that fried, and it’s replacement (another v551) had worsening reception, so she finally broke down and bought a gold v3xx. After 6 months, besides a little paint flaking, it’s holding up OK.

But that is 5 Motorolas that have all died in 3 years. I think they need to improve their build quality if they have not already.

If I reflash the v551’s firmware, I hope I can get it working again. my LG CU500 broke, and I went and got an old Cingular branded Nokia 1100. It’s awesome and all, very durable, and awesome (2 weeks!) battery life, but I have gotten used to a color screen, camera, web browser, and all that other crap, so maybe I will start to use the v551 again. Love that blue backlight on the external LCD, and the brushed plate on the front.

I might just break down and buy a KRZR or something.

Article is wrong to compare Motorola nvidia gpu to n95 ARM 11 cpu. Do not compare a GPU on one device to a CPU on another device. N95 uses omap2420 which uses powervr mbx gpu, afaik.

Also, as a rule, high mhz = high power drain. For e.g. xscale cpu at 600mhz = high power drain and inefficient compared to omap2420 arm11 at 333-400mhz.

I notice more times than I can count that the people who complain about Motorolas interface and stability are talking about really old phones.

I look at the UI in the SLVR, RIZR/KRZR, E2/E6 and the only problem I have is the number of steps to get to bluetooth. Nokia’s UI in their non-smartphones to me is terrible and I never saw why people complain about Moto and embrace Nokia. Motorola’s categories seem intuitive to me. I own a ROKR E2.

maybe ppl who get faulty motos have really bad luck, or maybe the carriers keep selling faulty or reconditioned cellphones. coz i live in malaysia, and my E2 is still working fine (only crashed 3times in 11 months. yes, i actually counted). my mom’s V3i is even more stable, according to her, throughout her 2 year ownership of the cell, the phone never hanged or have software problems. she even find it easy to use eventhough the V3i uses the old software that so many ppl hate. she was so impressed by it that she now want her next phone to be a motorola. and yes, my mom had previously used nokias and samsungs before.

The fact is “Motorola Razr 2 V8″ and “Motorola Razr 2 V9″ has processor 500 Mhz (the second faster processor for mobile phone, the fastest processor for mobile phone 624 Mhz in “Motorola Rokr Z6″). How about other slow processor other brand? Still slow? Don’t look the past of “Motorola” but look the future of “Motorola”.

The fact is “Motorola Razr 2″ doesn’t has any problem.

why everyone seems to have problems with their motos? my E2 is still working fine…doesnt crash like a nokia or se…my mom’s 2 year old V3i is the best phone she ever had, according to her… because it doesnt crash or hang or have software problems… she even find it easier to use than a nokia that she previously had, surprisingly…

The other makers aren’t absolutely flawless but Moto is the company I have had most of my cellular problems with since I have had an e120 (Verizon), V505 (old, by old I mean real, AT&T), and a V3i (Cingular), and some other one that sucked bad too and they have all, but the V505 (awesome still have it), have gone back and forth with multiple problems along with poor battery life, again except for the V505, and that kept happening over and over again. So from my experience, Motos are the worst.

Unless you’re just talking about the US.

@J: most motorola phones go to everyone not just AT&T. Look at the RAZR 2 where Sprint and Verizon were the first to get it.

any more details on this morphing keyboard that was mentioned?

and aside from that it looks like a good lineup in text and i hope it is cause motorola really needs t get something going.
