Sony Ericsson K850i Unboxing!

Got a little bit of competition there, Nokia? We’d say so! Sony Ericsson, long know for pooping on us America consumers with non-850MHz phones has finally turned a corner. The Sony Ericsson K850i doesn’t just come quad-band — we’re talking tri-band UMTS/HSDPA action also! Such a glorious day. A 5 megapixel CyberShot camera graces the handset, as do countless other features and upgrades over previous S.E. products. We’re loving this device, too. The camera lens opens automatically like a real camera on the back, the keypad is a pleasure to use and is highly responsive. We’re zipping away at HSDPA speeds right now, so we’d say all systems are a "go!" If there was ever a time to do a battle, it would be between the Nokia N95, and the Sony Ericsson K850i. Right, Chris? Check out our shots below!

Can you get/access gmail with this? How about the uploading photo options; straight to Flickr?

So it appears that the camera does have the same plexiglass over the lens cover that the preprod units had. Sigh…

Okay, so the rumor on Engadget is that it will hit AT&T. Any confirmation here? Dates? This is definitely the phone I want, but I want it discounted. :)

    Paul says:

tnkgrl, I thought when it was first announced that it was tri-band gsm with 2100 umts/hsdpa, however, either I was wrong or it changed. Anyway, it is most certainly quad-band gsm and tri-band umts/hsdpa now…

Psh I left that comment and didn’t even check out the phone yet but if I didn’t get my Tilt and S.E. put out a Tilt-like device (exactly the same with some S.E. touches) I’d be all over that piece boi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(cause I haven’t found a phone with anything near the same battery life as mt W600i)
(and I’m talkin’ a full 2 weeks plus on one 2-hour charge)
    (yea it was that good)

    BGR,

I’d really appreciate it if you could let your hard of hearing readers ie myself know if the K850i is hearing aid compatible (M3/T3 rating or M4/T4 rating or not HAC at all). Thanks.

My w810i can access gmail either through the web or through a mobile app Google makes. I’d assume the k850 can do the same.

_technically_ all camera phones have the ability to send pics straight to flickR. Not sure if there will be an actual application such as iFlickR on the iPhone, but FlickR assigns every member an “email address” that allows you to send your pics to your flickR page via a text message/email. If you don’t already know about this, just go to your “account” page on FlickR and it will list your FlickR email address there. This is one of the main reasons I want the K850i. I dont want to have to carry a digital camera AND a phone. Its about time. Rumor has it that its supposed to be coming to AT&T around Thanksgiving…again, just a rumor.

    The Blue or Green version?
I prefer the gren just because it is a little but different to the norm :-)
