Sidekick LX user’s manual arrives on T-Mobile’s site

As if we needed any more evidence that the Sidekick LX is dropping in the very, very neat future, T-Mobile has gone ahead and uploaded the device manual onto their support site. Seeing as we’ve had our hands on a Sidekick LX of our very own for quite some time now, there’s not a whole lot of new information here, but it’s a good read nonetheless for anyone waiting impatiently for the upcoming release date. One notable piece of info, however, is that the LX’s media player appears to support a much wider range of filetypes than the Sidekick 3. The new LX will happily playback MP3s, WMAs, AACs, MIDIs, AIFFs, and WAVs. The poor Sidekick 3 only supports MP3s. How very old school. Hit the link for more reading pleasure, and let us know if you come across anything of note.

Thanks, Ryan!

Am i misunderstanding something or does this finally mean we can use our own ringtones instead of using the catalog?

    Record a New Ringtone

    1. From any ringtone selector, select Record New Ringtone.

    2. The Stand By dialog box appears. To begin your recording select the Start Recording button or press the LEFT SHOULDER button.

    3. While recording, you can CANCEL , Pause/Resume , or Stop Recording . When finished, select Stop Recording.

    4. The Recorded dialog box appears. From this dialog box you can review your recording by selecting one of the transport controls: play from beginning, play/pause, reverse fast, fast forward. You can also CANCEL the recording altogether or Re-record .

    5. Once you select Done , you are prompted to name your new ringtone. Type a name in the text field, then select Save .

    6. You can now select this new ringtone from any of the ringtone selectors in any of the applications. Look for your new ringtone in the Imported category.

Note: If you already have 10 ringtones in your Imported category, then you will be prompted to discard one of your existing imported ringtones.

No You can’t. The manual provided is a non carrier specific manual. It clearly states at the top that some features will not be on certain carriers.

I have been wanted a sidekick for the longest time. I was going to settle for a Blackberry & decided on getting the new Sidekick LX. Is the only big difference between the LX and Slide - the swivel instead of slide and Sharp instead of Motorrola? ?

So would there be any way to unlock the features that the carrier locks? such as unlocking the device? or are these features gone forever after the carrier locks them?

yeah it sux bigtime that danger still hasn’t included some sort of video support in this phone model. but from what im hearing they are saving all that for the official sk4. which will launch to coincide with the launch of 3g sometime next year

The carrier doesn’t “lock” the phones, they are custom firmware’s for each carrier.

So it’s not like there’s MMS sitting on your Sidekick3, just not showing up in the jump wheel… it’s physically not on the device. The same goes for say importing ringtones from the Email app. It’s a custom built version. It’s not like there’s a setting that’s just disabled.
