The $950 Phillips 50-inch plasma blowout
All right ballers…now you can lace your crib with nothing but plasmas on the cheap. And not from some no-name knock off brand no one’s ever heard of. You know, the ones in the shady white vans? No, actually it’s Philips that’s blowing out refurbed, one-model-year-too-old sets for as low as $949.99 after instant rebate (and only $30 shipping!). Sure, some may balk at the idea of an old model, and one that’s been refurbished, but that size of TV for less than $1k is pretty good no matter how you slice it. And, it comes from Philips, and to say they’ve been around for a while is a major understatement. Make the jump for the set of links.

When did The Boy Genius Report become bensbargains.net? Where’s the scoops? The news-breaking stories? BGR has changed a lot in the past few months.

Phillips is bottom of the barrel. I’ve known this for years. Even the salesman at Fry’s Electronics stated that they are low quality and had many returns. Wouldn’t have this piece of crap in my house.

If I want updates on discount crap TV’s, I’ll go to the appropriate sites. That’s not what BGR has ever been about, or what we all love about BGR. Accurate punctuation is something that I’m sure BGR is about, though.

Wow. You guys are dumb. From BGR himself…
“With the rise in popularity of his columns and breaking news and scoops, a formal website front quickly transformed from a novelty to a necessity, and thus, Boy Genius Report.com was created.”

fuck all the haters, i think this is news worthy. some bgr readers simply can’t afford 5000 dollar plasmas. this would be an excellent tv for the garage or grandparents who don’t care about 1080p.
engadget sucks, bgr is the real deal.

Just look at the picture quality side by side next to a Sony or Mitsubishi. You’ll see. You don’t have to be a genius to see the difference but some common sense wouldn’t hurt. I don’t hate Phillips, they’re just a low-end manufacturer that uses cheap parts in their systems. It has probably 1/8 the life expectancy of a good quality brand, so whether you place it in your garage, your grandparent’s house or up your ass, it’s still going to fizzle out within a couple of years.

A review form Epions. Do your research before buying this product. “Pros: It was cheaper …
Cons: For which I ended up paying dearly …
Worked great for 6 month. After multiple calls to their so called “support center” I realized that I am on my own. They will not replace it, it cannot be repaired because Philips does not have replacement parts at all..
Welcome to the great idea of disposable TVs, Philips must learned it from Gillette.
Stay away - save your money and time ….”
