Gateway’s new 30″ monitor
Gateway seems to be the sleeper company of the year, bringing some seriously OK designs and products to the market, seemingly out of nowhere. The company has just announced a new 30-inch monitor and, lo and behold, there’s some pretty exciting stuff in there. The biggest news is that the monitor supports resolutions of up to 1600p, making your current 1080p screens look like last year’s news. The display also features 6 independent inputs, including HDMI, DVI, S-Video, Composite cable input, and VGA. Pretty crazy, right? Finding such high resolution video might be another story, but if you can’t track down any 1600p shots, rest assured that that it also upscales any existing 1080p video that you might have laying around the house. All told, this is shaping up to be quite the display. It’s currently available for $1,699 directly from Gateway.

1600p on a 30′ monitor? From what i’ve read and research i’ve done, the average human eye can’t even tell the difference between a 720p image and 1080p image unless their smack in front of the screen or the display size is like 42′ or better. Personally, I can’t tell the difference between watching content at 720p on my 42′ Olevia and my buddies 1080p Sony. Anyone else have any input on this?
Eddie Dollaz I agree with you man. I have had both a 720p/1080i set, and a 1080p, and i cannot see the difference. Both LCD’s were Samsung. I can’t see where 1600p would be of any use unless computers where going to have video cards that support that res, and you are a graphic artist.
still 3 inc moniters thas som gaming tech richt there if your a graphics whore or a beleiver in the Command Center
I want to read a review of this thing! Please!
Sounds alot like my 32″ Samsung LCD Television.. same inputs.. little bit higher resolution which isn’t even noticable and I paid just over $900 for my TV.. there is a $800 difference there.
Also on a side note I do have a computer hooked up to my television as well and it looks great but sitting close to that thing is almost a disadvantage as you have to actually move your head more to see things. I have found that my 22″ widescreen samsung monitor is about all I can comfortably handle without over doing it.
I’m going to say that sounds like a mid-sized over priced LCD television that they are calling a monitor.
What are you watching for comparison between you and your buddies Sony, Eddie Dollaz?
It really all depends on the source, but for the most part you can’t tell a difference overall. Especially when most HD broadcasts are 720p/1080i…
Jordan Brown – you’re right, there isnt much 1080p content out there, but the little that there is (bluray on the ps3), I wouldnt be able to tell the difference unless the image was stretched out over a 65 inch display or something. Which brings me to the initial point….whats the sense behind a 30′ 1600p display?!?!?! lol
How about a “Gateway 30 Giveaway″!!
