HTC S730 Unboxing
The recently announced HTC S730 was a much needed upgrade to HTC’s Vox. Some quick updates to the device include UMTS/HSDPA, a 400MHz processor, refined QWERTY keyboard, front-facing camera, and a couple other tweaks here and there. We liked the HTC Vox at first, but we soon found out the QWERTY keyboard was nearly unusable and the handset was a little but underpowered. How did the HTC S730 do? We would have liked it to shine, but for us, the keyboard was extremely difficult to type on, better, but not quite there yet. Device speed though was fine. Nothing really got slow of lagged down, even with a multitude of applications running concurrently. While we’re on that subject, we’ll let you know the S730 has 64MB of ROM, and 128MB of RAM, so you shouldn’t feel at all slowed down. Think of it as the baby brother to the HTC TyTN II — smaller, sort of similar specs, etc. We’re going to leave the decision making up to you, though. Ok, im done looking for a new smartphone. yay htc! (and at&t). wifi right?
Pass
So what’s the dealy with GPS and the scroll wheel? According to early specs, both were supposed to be included, but the product sheet from HTC doesn’t mention either. Enlighten us BG. What’s the word on GPS and the scroll wheel?
unusable… man that’s a harsh word to talk about a keyboard
Well BG, if you don’t want it I’ll be glad to take it off your hands.
oh yay! another brick by htc.
’sort of similar specs’ to the kaiser?
No GPS? No use. Especially on a until this chunky. I mean, seriously, it so nearly had the full house in an almost pocketable package – why leave out the GPS huh? soooo disappointing.. all they added was 3G and a faster processor – in 7 months.
reckon the Sammy i550 looks interesting, despite the symbian OS:

3g, 3.2mp camera, reeeal slim. not sure it has the all important wifi tho..
Is this available in the US? From what carrier?
Thank you!
Chris
Dude, who said that there is no GPS? Take a look at the last picture here: http://superiorgadgets.blogspot.com/2007/09/htc-s730-worthy-successor-of-popular.html
I currently have a TyTN and am considering the s730, so what’s up with the keyboard?
is the 3G usable in the US (on at&t i assume)? the htc site only shows it has the 2100 band, which at&t doesnt support.
Looking at the second picture (http://www.boygeniusreport.com/gallery/handsets/htc-s730-unboxing/?pid=1205#picture_nav) in the gallery, the RAM is stated as 64MB and not 128MB.
*Exactly* what’s wrong with the keyboard??
Please be more specific.
anxious to see this phone.
this will work in the US right
Very cool phone.
