BlackBerry 9000 whispers in our ear

No, it doesn’t have the amount of hype and speculation an iPhone did before its release, but we don’t think there has even been this much anticipation for a BlackBerry, ever. The hidden-in-a-dark-secret-underground-lab BlackBerry 9xxx has sent out a couple distress calls to us, pleading to let people know it’s coming and what it should have in store for the incredibly faithful and addicted BlackBerry users. First off, 3G. It most certainly will have a 3G radio and we’re not talking about the European bands. (The actual 3G bands are not yet clear, but we can only assume North American 3G is a go.) Second, this isn’t your momma’s 3G, this is going to be HSDPA. Forget the Wi-Fi scam, this is real speed with simultaneous voice and data! That isn’t the best part, though…we’ve been told it will rock a 600MHz processor! Finally. We shouldn’t have those necessary and annoying lag times when performing basic tasks, and there should be a drastic reduction of the bottleneck for Internet speeds on the device. What we reported ages ago still seems to be spot on — RIM is actively looking at integrating a Backup/Restore function to facilitate transferring your entire backup to an on board memory card. We’re trying to lock down a solid release date at this point in time, but if we had to guess, we won’t see it this year. Most likely early ‘08. You’ve got our address, RIM. Shoot one over, OK?

If Blackberry goes touchscreen (tactile buttons + touchscreen) that will be the nail in the coffin for the Treo.

You’re so funny with this crap already. Get it through your head: BB and iPhone aren’t competing for the same market. BB’s will never be popular consumer devices, and iPhones will never become popular corporate devices.

It would be so nice if you were banned from these conversations already. You’re a one note guy and you can’t even communicate like a normal human being. Ironic that you even use a device meant for communication.

    Ross:

He didn’t say they were. What Galvatron was implying was that he feels that Apple will have a say-so in what type of devices At&t sells (aka, they don’t want competition).

It makes sense. Apple is selling the only (pure) touch screen device with At&t right now, they aren’t going to want to lose their claim to fame. They’ll pressure At&t into not carrying any other (pure) touch screen devices, as long at At&t is the exclusive distributor of the iPhone. This in fact, will probably be a breaking point for the At&t-Apple agreement.

The 9xxx series will have a slide out keyboard. Sorry they are not going touch screen yet on this series but there will be some good ideas being pushed out with this series. You will not believe how much easier my life will be that we can actually upgrade the OS the way is should be with the memory card. I still love my Curve though :)

    JJ,

Riiiight. So in other words, he *was* arguing that the two devices are in direct competition, you just reworded it into English. You’re both wrong. The two aren’t competing because they can’t. Consumers don’t buy BB’s.

You BB guys are so paranoid ever since the iPhone was released it’s getting beyond dumb at this point. I remember when all of you got your panties in a twist when bbcool ran that nonsense about Apple ‘forcing” ATT to lock down the 8820’s GPS. Once it turned out that was a load of crap, the subject was dropped instead of anyone admitting they were wrong.

For all the talk of “Apple fanboys”, I’ve come to the conclusion that “BB Zombies” are a far worse species.

By the way, Apple doesn’t have any say so in what ATT sells. Apple is locked into a five year contract with ATT, so they don’t have much leverage to make demands. As I’ve said, you guys are just paranoid and constantly turning this into a WWF match between Apple and RIM and there’s no such thing.

Ross, I think you have lost focus, whats your point, so you disagree with Galvatron.. got it.

Goatspike, you talk as if you are on the design team. Not that I don’t like what you said but how can you speak that strongly about it. If you were on the team i’m sure you would not be allowed to be leaking information.

The photo is a obvious BB curve photo shopped.

I would assume if they went with a full touch screen front they would also need a slider keyboard, I would also expect GPS and models with a camera.

love the hype you guys are creating with a non-RIM produced picture of something that has nothing to do with any 9xxx. He could have put up any picture and you guys would blieve its the next blackberry.

And i’m with Ross, everyone is so paranoid about Apple that every conversation has to include them. Like they were forcing ATT to lock the GPS on the 8820 and that Apple doesnt want any touch screen devices on ATT. Get a clue, they want apple to succeed to bring in new ATT customers but Apple in no way controls how or what ATT can offer.
They get better deals with other manufacturers (no percentage of monthly fees), so ATT will go after all the other models they can.
But they must also see that no other maker can bring in the new customers like Apple has and will in the future.

Apple fanboy paranoia is now being dwarfed by the RIM fanboy insecurity.

No way the BB 9000 makes it to any other network before AT&T. No offense TMO fanboys, but the TMO network is a joke! My wife was on TMO and if she even thought about stepping behind a tree or other structure her call got dropped.

Man, I tried getting to your page from my intranet site and it was blocked. I won’t tell you what telecommunication giant I work for. Bring this phone on because I am already tired of my Curve. I would like the Iphone but the lack of 3g and a keyboard is stopping me, plus I don’t like strong arm tactics.

Lol no doubt even apple customers are suing it won’t be long before the fedgove files suit for anti -trust reasons if they keep this up. Rven m$ let’s 3rd party developors write appz. And wndows dosn’t render your box or lap inoporable. Even woz is ripping on apple now if you read slashdot. Also apple has yet to get in the gaming market. Wre m$ is in the software and hardare dept even *gasp* sony has more follow through then apple.

Whao wants to bet the iphone 2 won’t have a removable battery or an external menory slot . Or any hsdpa radios. If they mad a cdma model it would be more crippled than all of verizons handsets combined.
