BlackBerry 9000 whispers in our ear

No, it doesn’t have the amount of hype and speculation an iPhone did before its release, but we don’t think there has even been this much anticipation for a BlackBerry, ever. The hidden-in-a-dark-secret-underground-lab BlackBerry 9xxx has sent out a couple distress calls to us, pleading to let people know it’s coming and what it should have in store for the incredibly faithful and addicted BlackBerry users. First off, 3G. It most certainly will have a 3G radio and we’re not talking about the European bands. (The actual 3G bands are not yet clear, but we can only assume North American 3G is a go.) Second, this isn’t your momma’s 3G, this is going to be HSDPA. Forget the Wi-Fi scam, this is real speed with simultaneous voice and data! That isn’t the best part, though…we’ve been told it will rock a 600MHz processor! Finally. We shouldn’t have those necessary and annoying lag times when performing basic tasks, and there should be a drastic reduction of the bottleneck for Internet speeds on the device. What we reported ages ago still seems to be spot on — RIM is actively looking at integrating a Backup/Restore function to facilitate transferring your entire backup to an on board memory card. We’re trying to lock down a solid release date at this point in time, but if we had to guess, we won’t see it this year. Most likely early ‘08. You’ve got our address, RIM. Shoot one over, OK?

TMO? lol.
Who is the number one provider of Blackberry service on the planet? That’s my bet for who will get the first 3G ‘berry.

you didn’t describe the pic. Is that a concept of the 9000 series? I’m pretty sure AT&T will be the first to carry this.

Good money says that AT&T will go first. That is the safe bet. You Las Vegas types will lay down 2:1 that it goes to a CDMA carrier first. Any takers?

BG, Is the pic just a guess as to what it will look like, or have you received any tips as to a touch screen?

Ummmm You do know that is just a concept picture right? Not a camera shot of a prototype? And you do know that final devices NEVER (or very rarely) resemble the concept pictures? I seriously doubt they will drop the keyboard. BlackBerry is too entrenched in business to drop it. Coming out with a touchscreen unit is EXTREMELY risky. They would effectively kill their current market of users and hope they gain a whole new one and make up for the loss. If it IS a touch screen, I would not buy the first unit because it will most surely fail for them.

BG you have been holding out for such a long time.
If they do include a touch screen will they also include a slideout keyboard or no? From the looks of it most users prefer a keyboard to an on screen option. In addition to all this we must assume that at least a GPS chip will be included, the wifi option can be held off. What about a camera? Video?

Andy, I believe that’s just a concept picture and not the real thing. However I still hope it’s not a touch screen!

I understand that it is just a concept picture, however, the rumors of a touchscreen Blackberry indicate that this may in fact be it.

I love BlackBerry, but as someone who doesn’t rely on time-sensitive email, paying $30 a month for just email is a waste. As a current iPhone user, I could never go back to wap pages either.

The correct code will be 9100, about video shot … They have one in 8120, so I would assume the will have it in the 9100 series. Its not actually a touch screen but it would work like LG series phone.

Hsdpa sexy althogh there is a chance Apple $says $0. Will not carry it remeber this could make apples product look like it sucks. Wich isn’t to hard they’ve done that themselves already more over tmo has started tsting on the 1900mhz band. They probably figuyred the feds aint getting off the 1700mhz anytime soon. I do hop they have widen the bottle neck an gave the os browser flash suport. As it stands right now all blackberrys have a max of 4 data channels you need 6-8 to view most webpages these days becaus of the many socket connection a scure server requires.
