AIM message transfer time on sk: between 1-7 secs
Anything else: >10 secs. Fail.
Sidekick all the way.
Would be good if it had g-talk though…lol.

Ok so ive had about 9 phones in the last 3 years..

I use AIM (the most) yahoo and msn messenger

Ive had the Treo, then i got the sidekick 2, and
then my phone a.d.d. kicked in and i went to a blackberry and then the PPC-6700 windows mobile 5 device, and then another blackberry and in between the sidekick 3, and i have to say, and yes ive used jivetalk and ramble and IM+ but once your a sidekick user and you go to something else like jivetalk on a blackberry you feel handicapped and like you just shot yourself in the foot for switching to a differnt phone. There is no better aim software than SIDEKICK, there is no better keyboard and there is no better interface, its just SOLID. not to mention you can type twice as fast because the keyboard is rediculously comfortable, TAKE IT FROM ME WHO HAS USED IT ALL. and iphone will never be good for aim.

So if youre a sidekick user then going to anything else is trash ? Im asking cause Im thinking about that Curve but i did test with a couple windows mobile clients and it felt like 10 to 15 more secs for msg to pop up compared to my sidekick using AIM

JiveTalk on the BB is pretty good.

You forgot to mention the Gizmo Project which has a mobile version in the works (no one, at least on the BlackBerry side including myself, has succeeded in using it yet).

@Randy: Have you tried mChat (http://mgslab.com/get.php?id=mchat23). Although it requires the .net framework, it will connect to a Jabber Server (which is all that GoogleTalk uses).

Thanks for the great comments, guys! I didn’t include BlackBerry Messenger because as useful as it is, it applies to BlackBerrys only. I also did not include 3rd party software for Windows Mobile like Agile Messenger, because from a reliability standpoint, it doesn’t fare that well…

Agree with the BB messenger, it rocks for your buds with a BB.

Jive Talk for the BB is the shiznit. Kudos to Kai and the BeeJive team!!

I have an iPhone and may be returning to the BB because I value IM quite a bit.

I, too, recommend JiveTalk. I use a BlackBerry 8700g and it just works great. I used the ShapeServices IM+ and it was okay, but I like the JiveTalk interface better. And it is $20 less for a lifetime license.

How about Treo devices?
Treo 755P from Sprint has IM app built in. It’s pretty simple and easy to use.
I have tried Mundu IM on Palm OS, it’s very good IM app, you can transfer files and pics. It’s reliable and can work in the background.
Anyone who which IM app is good for Sprint Mogul WM6?
