Motorola W490 launching October 1st on T-Mobile
Remember that new Motorola W490 we told you about a while back? Don’t think we forgot about the little bugger. The handset, which closely resembles Moto’s last RAZR iteration, the KRZR, is a solid middle-end device sporting little more than a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, myFaves compatibility, and, well, not a whole lot more. It’s not a bad looking phone, and for $49.99 with a new activation, there’s not a lot of room for complaining. The handset will be available in a variety of colors, including black, bright green, and purple. The phone will launch on October 1st, with immediate availability at T-Mobile corporate stores, Costco, and Target. Complete distribution will follow on the 8th of October. Any takers? so here’s what you do:
the memory card
(if you bought one)
Kinsington 1g is $25 2g is $45
its slot is right below the battery to the right of the phone.
you either usb cord the phone into your computers port, or take out the card and put it in your computers slot, or buy an external sd card port.
then you open up the card from My Computer and darg and drop your mp3 files into the audio folder.
I got the W490 on Friday! The green one! Yeah!
So far, I like the phone. Question – can I assing different ring tones for different contacts? I couldn’t figure it out yet!

okay maybe i’m just slow, but i got this phone yesterday and don’t know how to turn the darn keypad sound off. on a scale from 1-10 i wold say overall first day experience with it is a 7. But yeah any help with the button noise?
Judy, just press and hold down the # key for a full second until the phone vibrates and then you’ll be in silent/vibrate mode. Do the same thing to take it off silent/vibrate.
I got my phone about 3 weeks ago (after dropping my old Nokia in the toilet…don’t ask)
Anyway, so far it’s a great phone for me, definitely an upgrade from my last phone. But it has a tendency to not send some text messages, and for some reason it thought that it needed to switch to daylight savings time (which is irrelevant to me because I live in Arizona and we don’t have DST) so some of my text messages have funky time stamps on them.
Has anyone else experienced these problems?
And for anyone wondering about the keypad for texting…mine was a little stiff and noisy at first, but it’s much better now
Yeah i just got this phone 2 days ago and have been sending text messages as usual, only to find out none of them have actually been sent! it’s frustrating and i plan to go back to t-mobile and request a change to something else.
lol i just got mine like tuesday.. started using it thursday =]…and so far it’s good.. i guess.. just as LONG as it works.. the rest of it is a bonus but as long as the phone’s in working condition i dont care about anything else ..
I was wondering how to make a ringtone out of a song on the phone. HELP PLEASE
I have the w490 and I would like to know how do you download a song and make it a ringtone.
PLEASE HELP! I synced my phone to my computer and added songs to my phones memory card. However I can not find them in my phone. Can ANYBODY HELP? When I plug my phone back into my computer it shows the songs are in my phone.
I got my W490 2 weeks ago. Was setting up morning recurring alarm and there is no option for this as it has in samsung x495. Motorola suggested to set event in calendar. But then calendar displays full of events on every day/date.
I got this phone yesterday and its great except that the self-portrait feature won’t work. also i dunno how to change the month/day format from day/month/year to month/day/year in the cell’s small front screen. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN WITH THESE TWO PROBLEMS!!!!
How’s the camera? 1.3 mpixels is OK for me, but is the focus/lens good enough to make a very good 4X6 inch print? Does it produce sharp webphotos? Is there a way to protect the lens from scratches when carried in a pocket?
I gather this phone is GSM–but is it tri- or quad-band?

it’s a quad-band world phone.
and the camera isn’t too bad. the pictures turn out decent when emailed to a computer, and they resize decently as well.

I got the phone yesterday and its pretty good. The alarm is great and the bluetooth is great, there no pin code required. but the first day it had MYFAVE but then 2nd day it took it away.
where is the memory card slot. and how do i download music from my computer to my phone, i have called everyone and they are no help at all.
Hi, I just got my phone. I too agree 20 seconds is not long enough for display. I have the same ? that alot of you have asked, so instead of repeating them I will wait to see if someone responds to them. Also, any suggestions for a case? I haven’t had any luck finding one yet, maybe the cases are not yet available? Anyone using a case from a different model phone? Thanx for any help! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! ;o)
Take time to read your manual, it has most of the info ya’ll need to attack this phone. ok look everyone to put music you need a memory card its right under the sim card u should see it, thats the only way to put music
Any idea on how to sync with Vista’s sync feature? Does it or doesn’t it? And what drivers need to be installed?
