Motorola W490 launching October 1st on T-Mobile

Remember that new Motorola W490 we told you about a while back? Don’t think we forgot about the little bugger. The handset, which closely resembles Moto’s last RAZR iteration, the KRZR, is a solid middle-end device sporting little more than a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, myFaves compatibility, and, well, not a whole lot more. It’s not a bad looking phone, and for $49.99 with a new activation, there’s not a lot of room for complaining. The handset will be available in a variety of colors, including black, bright green, and purple. The phone will launch on October 1st, with immediate availability at T-Mobile corporate stores, Costco, and Target. Complete distribution will follow on the 8th of October. Any takers? Head on over to Engadget Mobile to check out the full scoopage!

Thanks, tmophonehome!

Would love to see Tmobile be more committed to putting UMA in their phones, this moto would have been a perfect phone for it. I sometimes wonder if Hotspot@Home is going to make it.

disappointing, just bought it a couple of days ago but had a bad experience already, so here I am trying to redial a number and bang! a buzz sound went on for almost three minutes, I could not turn it off, I could do nothing to it, finally the sound went off and a blank screen came up, there again I try to turn it off and nothing, none of the keys would respond to the commands, it was completely frozen…disappointing!

i just got this phone on oct10. it’s a nice phone for the price, but i do not like the voice quality of a person that i am speaking with or the play back quality of voice mail. however the speaker phone and voice calling options are great! the main thing i do not like is that the display timeout max is only 20 seconds! one last thing…software is not yet available to download phone numbers that have been saved on my computer from my old phone. if anyone knows of any available software pls let me know!! i have 83 entries to be copied from my old phone!!!!

Thinking about buying this phone. Haven’t seen it yet in person. Can you enlarge the font on the screen? Is it easy to read the letters on the keypad for texting? In my 40’s and some phones are hard to see.

I received the w490 a couple of days ago. I am very disappointed in the display timeout of 20 seconds..plus the keys are very stiff so it’s hard to text message. Getting on the web is difficult because of the display timeout..guess I am stuck with it since I had to extend my contract for 2 years with t-mobile.

Was trying to do the same thing as Rafael. How do you add music to the phone w/o a memory card? Do we need the software? Has the s/w been released yet? And I’m quite sure they don’t have one for a mac…..

    Please let us know.

    Thanks.

Just got today, charged it up, turned on, and the screen is blank. It also has no sound, just keypad lights up. I had T-mobile trouble shoot over the phone, but it still doesn’t work. I reordered the phone, so hopefully the next one will work!

I change my phones a lot and I really liked the look of the purple W490. It’s pretty to look at with the key pad lighting up in the same color. It’s a pretty good quality phone for the price. The camera isn’t the best (1.3) and you can’t really customize it as much as you can a Razr/Rizr/Krzr (no skins/themes). But,honestly the phone does make up for it with it’s many other features like mp3 player, e-mail/IM accesible, bluetooth, and myFaves capable. If you’re looking for a nice looking, reliable phone that gives you clear calls you should definitely consider it. I like it much better than the Razr, Rizr, and Krzr. And I’ve had them all. Trust me. I’d much rather spend half the money of this phone than twice as much as on a over-hyped phone that doesn’t live up to the talk.

Although, I just bought this phone and it doesn’t appear to be supported yet by Apple iSync. So, I can’t sync my contacts or calendar which is why I bought a bluetooth phone in the first place. Other than that, I think it’s a great phone… for a PC user.

I just purchased this phone last week, I cannot play any of my music on it. And the keys do get stuck and don’t respond like they should. This is like the 6th phone I have gotten from T-mobile and so far, only one of them worked correctly, that is my back up phone. This phone I wish I had not have gotten.
